Under Pressure

I'm sure I need not state for the many experienced heads here; but, for the less knowledgable: Always check/fill tires when tires are cold or at ambient temperature. Friction will change the pressure rapidly within 3 miles of travel, so I've been informed.

I had a Dunlop rep at Wing-ding tell me that is was typical for a tire to pick up 3 to 4 psi after it had been run. I use that as a rule of thumb if I get on the road and feel the need to check. I am not certain if that rule would still hold true on the 240 on the rear (remember size matters) or not.

My understanding is that their should be a 10% differential between cold and warm pressure-if not, the cold is too low.

Tire Pressue

Mine are set fit 42 front 46 back, these are from a note in the specs from Metzler 880 XXL for 2up light, there are other values for solo and 2up heavy. There quote about these pressures equal better mileage/tire life.
Always inflate tires to the correct pressure as indicated in the owner's manual. However Metzeler North America has found the air pressure suggestions listed below will improve mileage and customer satisfaction especially if a emphasis is placed on running the air pressure towards the maximum as stated on the sidewall. Check cold tire pressures frequently. Correct tire pressure is crucial for safe handling. Over inflation may impair ride comfort and reduce the contact patch between the tire and driving surface of the tires. Insufficient air pressure will result in poor handling and cause a tendency for the motorcycle to "wander". In addition, improper and insufficient tire will cause accelerated tire wear, increased fuel consumption, less control and the possibilities for tire failure to due an overload/under inflated operating situation.

I run 32 in the rear (Dark Side), I'm using less of the planet's air and not filling up my local landfill with metzlers. My carbon foot print is shrinking and I feel really "green" right now...I think I'll go hug a tree:p:cool::D

I increased the front to 38 as suggested by another rider and it's much nicer than the 34 as delivered. Feels much more Planted at speed. I'll try 46 in the rear if we ever get a warm spell! BTW-I did not feel any difference between 38 and 40 up front=if that helps.

The Metzler site recommends 36 front and 40 rear. I wonder why it would be different than what Triumph recommends.

METZELER - Fitment Chart

I remember you got the N fill at Costco on the car. How is it oing? I put new tires on Amy's Ranger last fall with N and I've not had to add anyything to maintain pressure at all....

It has green caps....

The N fill was with my F150. I got Michelin ATX M&S. They fill them to 30 front 32 rear. I fill them to 34 all the way around with 78% N.:) I still think Costco has the best deal around on tires.

I am going to start running 36 and 40 on the Rocket as Metz suggests and see what happens.
