Unauthorised ECU modifications and Warranty Claims

The Triumph factory has this week issued a clear workshop instruction to its global dealer network with respect to warranty claims resulting from unauthorized ECU modifications which override the original factory approved parameters of an o/e tune map while retaining its original tune number. Such unapproved modifications include increasing the rev limiter range, fueling, and the adjustment of the ignition timing without the use of an additional control unit.

From now on, all warranty claims for suspect ECU faults or engine damage will only be authorized after the ECU has been thoroughly checked by the factory. In this regard, on all its new models, Triumph has included an anti-tamper facility within the ECU which has the ability to detect when non o/e software has been downloaded. This recorded information can only be read by the factory.

Be Warned: Triumph will reject all warranty claims for any ECU returned to the factory that has recorded any unauthorised tunes. As a result, the use of any non-approved modifications will invalidate your motorcycle's warranty. In addition, the factory points out that homologation and type approval could also be affected and in some instances result in the invalidation of a rider’s insurance in the event of a claim!

Another example of Triumph clutching at straws to walk away from their known factory defects in order to bolster the bottom line. I'm wishing much bad will for these corporate a-holes....Triumph..."F" you.

i guess that because I just ordered my jars and will be ordering my triple K&N filters today. I will have to ask the dumb questions...

Who and what is "authorized".
I take "additional control unit" to mean PCiii / PCV... perhaps GIpro?

This adds a little confusion to what I thought I had just figured out....

I guess I will do what I normally do... go blindly forward, and hope all ends well.....

Which year models effected

Do you mean 2012 models leaving the factory now or all 2012 models?

How about the 2011 models do they have that anti-tamper feature:confused:

fortunately my beast is so old and so modified I do not even think warranty anymore. I wonder if you had the original copy of the Triumph tune unmodified and install it prior to taking it into the dealer for any service work. Would they see that the unit was ever modified?
Its obvious they have known about tunning aids that link into the ecu for modifying the tunes for years now as I think Tune Boy has been into it from the begining. If they gave them the information and it was not hacked I wonder how it could be considered unapproved?

The fact is that only time the Tigers Explorer comes with the new ECU.
The other models, but are sure to follow.

Hi,

Are entitled to only authorized Triumph dealer.
If you a PCIII / PCV or GIpro are using and You remove these devices again, no man is able to determine if an unauthorized tampering has occurred.

Triumph is covering their behind,
can't blame them for that.
They send em out running and in good shape,
we take em and do whatever we want to em.
Harley's had that philosophy for decades.
Even a set of aftermarket pipes will invalidate the warranty on a harley,
and we do a lot more than that by altering the settings of the ECU..
