Tyres for rocket 3

Black and Chrome

As soon as I can figure out how to use this forum I will send a photo. Thanks for the info on the rear tyre. It is a great idea to use car tyres.

It's not the M90.. It's the C109RT tire we're talking about... It has a 240/55-16 rear tire. Should fit the Rocket as well, but havne't heard of anyone trying one yet. I also don't believe they are V rated.. but that shouldn't matter unless you ride at 140 MPH every where you go..

Suzuki's web sit says the m90's rear tire is a 200/50ZR17 Rocket's use a 16 inch rear.

BTW nice seat but a little wide for my wallet.

Hi Graeme and Welcome
I have recently changed mine from Metzelers, to Avon Cobras. Feels so much better and slightly cheaper

My dealer used to put on Metzlers since 2005. They wear out because they're soft, which improves handling in my opinion. Although not for as long as you'd like. My dealer recently recommended the Bridgestone Excedra Max, which is 240/55 16. If he thinks the extra 10 mm diameter is OK, I guess it's OK with me. I currently have Avon Cobras front and rear with maybe half the tread left when I bought the bike last summer. Not impressed with their feel. I'm thinking about a Metzler for the front and the Bridgestone for the rear. Welcome!

Suzuki used the Bridgestone G852 Exedra (not the Exedra Max) as the stock 240/55-16 V-rated tire on its C109RT. I haven't tried it but by all accounts here it's terrible. I'm currently running Avon Cobra up front and Bridgestone Exedra Max in the rear, both V-rated, on my Roadster and think they're pretty good. I might switch to the Cobra rear next time just to try it out.

Hi dougl,
I run Metzeler front and Bridgestone rear on my 2009 standard and it works well. The reason I now only use a Metz on the front is that they have a very stiff sidewall. The front Cobras I had caused a handlebar wobble when decelerating through 40-30mph. It wasn't terrible, but it bugged me. The Metz doesn't do that. The wobble might not be the general case, but on my bike it was repeatable and annoying.

Good to know. Thanks.

Nothing wrong with reviving an old thread. It is kind of fun.

FYI my V rated Avon Cobras lasted a little over 10,000 miles on the rear tire with a touch of tread left. The front tire lasted over 13,000 miles with enough tread to call it safe. This set of tire went through 2 dyno tests and a track day. I changed these tires because I wanted a fresh set of tires for RAA XI. The Avon Cobra is a performance enhancing tire. And funny thing is, it wears better then a Metz.

The guy with front wobble must have had a damaged tire. I've used Avon Cobras since the first set of stock Metz wore out.
