Gentlemen and the 1 lady I once saw on an R3.

I recently installed triple K&N air filters on my R3. I observed that the bike has now a special sound during acceleration, like a high speed popping sound like a machine opening many, many beer bottles at a high rate. :). I am wondering if this is the usual sound from the new air intakes. It doesn't bother me but I want to make sure it's not something else. Thanks guys and you too, lady!

Yes, it is normal and a beautiful sound as well. It's the intake harmonics; some have described it as "chirping"....

...I describe it; well I describe it as the very essence of life (in the motor) itself!

this is a vid i made of the sound difference might be of interest to you

I've had the 2780s, and now the 1770s mounted, I wonder why my Touring doesn't seem to make that noise? I'd say my hearing was shot, but I could hear it on the video.

I cant put up with it either. It's especially unpleasant with a Roadster size screen. With a fly screen - maybe. The chirping can be minimised - I have a PCV-A/T and using hanso's tune the chirping near disappeared. But there is a whap sound - very RPM dependant - lovely roar at 4000 but arround 2500 sounds like sombody is slapping the tank HARD with a wet halibut. Without the claw on it's downright unpleasant.

The opened up outer plenum filter I've cobbled together is FAR quieter - maybe due to the fact the original rubber bellmouths are still used. These maybe smooth out air flow. Something I believe Carpenter uses on their race bikes. Battersea has done one as well.

..tis a beautiful sound.......much better than say, having your bike sit along the road and making the sound of ..............nothing....
