Hey all; newbie member with possibly a dumb question here. I'm not too knowledgeable on turbo information; I will never pretend to say I'm a mechanic; but happened to fall upon what may possibly be a good deal for some upgrade parts for the Beast; here's a quote from an email a buddy sent to me:
ANY info and opinions on this idea would be GREATLY valued since I basically know nothing about such an addition. Would anything like this work? What other parts would I need - the Beast is bone stock; and I'm not scared to change intake/exhaust/tune to add some 'go' as long as I don't need to be wrenching for 8 months to so some major overhaul... I have a great network of friends who are auto mechanics; but noone else owns an RIII that I know so tapping you folks for your input; again any and all comments would be appreciated; thank you!"i scored you a set of CT12A twin turbos that are the right size for your bike... theyre low mileage and only 200 bucks from one of my club membersLets TT your bike!!"
"sorry im being a pest, buddy just is in a rush to sell his turbos cuz his new one needs paying for.. were we gonna TT your bike? only 200 bucks for both turbos in great shape plus the manifold.. which u likely wont need but whatever - ...umm..hang on ill see about some basic factory specs....
the turbos are Toyota CT12A's sequential twin turbos.. rated at about 150,000 to 200,000km pulling a 4000 pound car...theyre rated up to about 18psi, ceramic blade turbos.. on our cars they run about 8 pounds stock boost... peaking about 11 pounds.. our safety cutoff is 16 pounds... ive seen them run at 20pounds reliably for bursts...trying to find turbo sizes.. but your bike wont generate near that much pressure so, you'd be totally cool.... power in power out - put less in, get less out.. they wont blow up anything
http://www.toymods.net/forums/showthread.php?p=516499#post516499 - pics of the turbos taken apart... Toyota Ct12a's flow 20lb/min stock, 3cm shaft size.. that first number is for the turbo wheel.. no need for you to upgrade it.. but im looking at rebuilding mine with 28pound wheels... max pressure.
theyre lighter cuz theyre ceramic, better for your application, fast spinup time, no lag, no "torque bump" think reduced voltage starter; you electrician...
http://img219.imageshack.us/img219/3715/turboupgrade006ln4.jpg - theres a photo for you to compare sizes.. the one on the left is a bigger common turbo TR44.. the CT12a is a much more manageable size...i wanna see these on your bike and usually USED turbos like this are three times this price, but hes one of my club guys and hes in a rush so if they will fit, its gonna be the cheapest turbo upgrade in history.. AND theyre toyota, nothing comes better engineered."
