It's a good thing Triumph released a lot of accessories from the start as I've searched the web (just to see what's out there) and have not found very much. There are a few companies doing pipes, but that's all I've found. I don't plan to do much, but I like to look. :)

As far as pipes, I rank them as follows. The criteria is sound and looks.

1. Faron Razorbacks - These things sound amazing. I think they may be too loud for my tastes, but they do sound good. The look had to grow on a bit as I didn't like them much at first.

2. Staintune - These sound just as good as the Razorbacks, but I don't like the looks quite as well.

3. British Customs - These sound good, but not as good as the first 2. They look better than either, however; more true to the OEM pipes.

4. D&D - These are decent sounding pipes and look good

5. RAASK - These things (from what I heard on You Tube) don't sound worth squat. Of course, the disclaimer is I only heard one You Tube clip. That particular clip may have not done them justice. They look nice, however.

I've always liked Staintune, and would have bought a set for my R3T if they were available sooner. That said, I don't what they were thinking with the look on the T'Bird. It does look like they have the removable baffle. I used to insert the baffle on longer trips, that nice sound can get on your nerves over the course of several days on the road.

Also, Staintune, being stainless steel do require a bit of maintenance as opposed to chrome finish.

Daryl,

I stumbled onto this post through a google search and thought I might be able to help a bit. I don't know if you participate in any of the other boards or not, but I have the British Customs pipes and did a direct comparison video of them with the stockers. You can find the video here...

JayCut – exhaust comparison

(jaycut is redoing their servers so it will only be up for another week or so... have to get it moved to youtube I guess)

Anyway, I do a full pull away, ride by and decel with both pipes fitted. At the end of the video I have spliced together the two pull aways back to back. It should give you about as good a comparison as possible.

Personally I find them great pipes and the added benefit of the weight loss and restriction from the cat is great. Granted I won't be able to take full advantage of that until I can get an intake mod and a tuner on her but it sets me up well for the future.

Anywho, just thought I'd share. Good luck what ever you choose.

Our dealer put a set of BC pipes on the new T-bird. They sound great, and look great also. Very nice pipes.

The BCs may very well be what I go with. They sound good (not as good as the Razorbacks to me), but the overall package (sound, looks, cost) is good. Also, I was just talking with them and the guy said something to caught my interest. They're very tame at idle. They'll perk up nicely, however, on command. I'd like that. I don't want some straight drag pipe of thing where it's constant loudness punishing my (and others') ears.

This is very much true. They are also relatively mild at constant speed, more throatier and probably half again as much volume as stock but fairly mild. But put some wrist into it and they really open up. There are about 3 stages to the pipes, idle which is mild, moderate acceleration which is double the volume (give or take) but much better growl and then full on which actually happens at probably 3/4 and up acceleration. I have often used that to make sure I kept from being loud in a neighborhood. I'm very pleased with the pipes.

Hopefully the video helped. I'm due to get my bike back from the BB install hopefully tomorrow and I was going to do another pass with the bike with my new camera (better video and audio). The nice thing about the other video is that while it was a poor quality camera it was back to back. Makes it a lot easier to know what these things sound like.

Good luck in your choice. Sean at BC is a good guy to work with.

Anything that hides that funky whine noise they make is a plus. The way the bike looks sitting still is fantastic .... then it starts and makes that noise .... ARRRGGG, it just doesn't match the bike.
Personally I vote for the Razorbacks ... the way they look is cool as **** ... and the sound is how the bike looks like it should sound. Its a nice combination, pricy, but what the hell, if price was the issue the bike in the driveway would be a Honda, right?
