Thinking of owning a Rocket since 2004, have some newbie questions

When I saw the ROCKET X for the first time on the promotion video from Truimph I did not even look at the price. Knew it was a done deal. Did not care. Just buy one you will not regret it at all. Welcome from Melbourne, I bought a 2010 Roadster about eighteen months ago with only 8,600k's on the clock and paid 16k for it (it had a few factory extras such as rear rack, front engine bars, fly screen and Staintune performance exhaust). they are out there you just need some patience I guess? Also the 2010 Roadster is std with ABS.
Keep looking and I'm sure you'll find a good one soon enough, there seems to be plenty in QLD, mine came from Perth...

Thanks Mike, those prices look reasonable for a full header and can replacement. I will keep checking for second hand ones as well in here. I saw some videos with Jardine setups and they did sound great!

Hey James! That one I linked earlier says it has the Triumph performance exhausts installed. Is there any visual clue, from the pictures the stock and the performance ones look the same. That looks like a really good price you paid for your bike.

My FTO club's Vice President stays in Bateman's Bay and we drive down to his place every year for annual Bonfire meet up. Beautiful place! Now looks like I will have one more reason to ride down to Bateman's Bay!

Thanks Sonny! I have the same thing in my head for over a decade now, definitely want to own the Rocket. But finance needs to get approved by the Mrs. I prefer it that way, else if it was on me, I wouldn't have any savings left That's a good amount of miles. How's the bike on long trips? Sore from seating position etc? Hey R3Rider! That's a pretty good deal with all those extras and low kms! I guess I'll have to be bit patient and not jump the gun right now.

Hey Rick! Yeah easy for you to say now that you already own a Rocket But judging by the posts, I should be patient and get a good one instead of rushing for something not value for money.

I read some posts last night about the gearbox (gear shift fork bent). Was that a manufacturing/engineering flaw or can develop over the time. If over the time, I will try and check that on the bikes I inspect. From reading the posts, it was obvious around 2100+ rpm on shifting from 3rd to 4th, staying on 4th, and shifting from 4th to 5th.

Yeah; I bought a NOS 2012 R3R about the end of 2013; so, a no brainer there.

Much more care needed when buying used.

No wonder there was only two secondhand ones over here when I was looking to buy, you melbournians are buying them up . Managed to get one about three months ago, a 2014 for just under 16k with 13k on the clock, with progressive front springs, hyperpro rear shocks, staintune exhaust and tuneboy filters, previous owner didnt like the red stripes so he had it all painted, happy about that I wasnt keen on them either. Since I have had it have put on a powercommander had it dyno tuned put on a different seat and currently making some forward controls for the beast. Only down side is everyone asks why I have a permanent smile on my face Thank god for our fantastic weather in the West I can ride it almost every day, my poor Harleys dont go far now days

Welcome from Canada, Take some time and find what you want/what your going to be happy with, that's going to be a nice chunk of change to lay out so be sure. Took me six months to find the one I have now. All the ones I was seeing had put these really bad trunks on them and just killed the looks of the bike. I was about to give up and go by a Harley or a Boss Hoss, then I happened across this bike and it was in beautiful condition, PCV, Full Jardine exhaust and Ram Air intake were already done, as well as all the trimmings, roughly about $5000 in upgrades. So overall, $10,000 for a 2010 R3T loaded with 12,000 miles on it was well worth it. people who see it always assume that it is a new bike.
Also be prepared to have sore cheeks for awhile, it is going to take quite awhile to get the grin off your face.

Buy the newest model you can afford, the sweet spots in my opinion being:

Rocket 3 Roadster (2013)
Rocket X (2015)

For a variety of reason, I personally feel the early 2013 R3R is the best R3R, followed closely by the Rocket X, and finally any R3R 2014 or newer. If you need to buy an older R3, just make sure its maintained properly with some miles and didn't spend it whole life in storage.

40000klm is only about 25000miles which shows the guy very seldom rode the bike, 2300cc is an engine made to put miles on it, buy the one you can afford and which you will be happy with.
