How many miles I have left to go is not part of the equation. I was not ballparking on the 40 to 41 miles per gallon. That was manually calculated when I refilled the tank (several times). I calculate fuel mileage by dividing how many miles traveled (from a full tank) by how many gallons required to refill. The "miles left to go" is not accurate and should not be considered a factor when calculating fuel mileage. It is a datapoint however. If one day (after a fill up) it reads 215 miles left and another day it reads 160 miles left, I know fuel mileage has degraded. On my bike, you can safely add another 30 or so miles to the indicated "miles left to go" to get a more accurate reading of what's reality.
 
OK, I've got issues. I thought the R3T only had a 5 gallon tank, plus my low fuel lamp comes on with about 40 miles to go on gauge. I ran it down to 18 once, but was scared I would be pushing it if I kept going. Is the miles to go accurate and how many gallons does the R3T hold??
 
light comes on at 135 run till 180 then fill.bike is dry at 200 i tried it.i was carrying fuel in panniers..always fill to bottom of filler usually 38 mpg uk measures
 

R3T's hold 5.89 gallons of fuel. Your low fuel light will more then likely come on when your bikes indicates 35 to 40 miles left before empty. Now, if you were to stop to fill up at that point, you will be surprised at how much fuel is left in the tank when the low fuel light comes on.

On my R3T, I believe I have 25 to 30 miles left of riding when "0" miles left on gauge. I have not run it totally out of fuel yet but have put in excess of 20 to 25 miles beyond "0" miles left indication.

Also, When I stated earlier I was getting over 40mpg, that was on long highway drones (several hundred miles) cruising at 70 to 75mph.

My tank is 24 litres. On riding in surburbia with traffic, lights etc my fuel light comes on at around 200kms. If I fill it then it only takes 16 litres. This has been consistant for me so I know I have 100kms still giving me a total of 300kms having only used two thirds of the tank. On the open road at 120kms two up I got 260 before the fuel light come on. By the time I got home and refueled I had done 325kms and it took 20.5 litres to fill. It wouldn't surprise me if I took it easy (100kms) and was solo I could get close to 400kms to a tank.
