The bottom line is this all costs money. No site is free no matter what the owners of the site say.
I have heard that here and on other forums but I can personally testify that the "overhead" of a site like this one is very minimal. I also host a forum for Honda VTX riders and I am very familiar what it costs. This site makes more from the advertisers than what it costs to maintain it. I'm not saying the owners aren't entitled to make a profit so let's not blow that statement out of context. This is America. We can do whatever we like (that's legal) .

I hereby testify that I don't have the first clue what running a website cost. I've been a moderator for 4 years, however, and know that job inside and out. You're praised one day and called a neo-con **** the next.

Daryl- My father in law has a '65 red Fender Strat in perfect shape. He worked in a music shop and bought it from the first owner on a trade in. He also has an amp from the same era.

Subject-matter expert, no matter the subject, always the expert.:)
Because I operate a forum and website and I pay the associated bills, yes, I think you can say I'm better prepared to state what the costs are. Check out my forum at: www.Xchoppers.com/bb I pay the bills for our forum. Feel free to delete the link if you think someone may inadvertently stumble onto my website. We can't have that now can we...

Nice site. I see you don't allow competitors to advertise? How come?

Lately some people have been using this forum to advertise competitors websites.
This is thoughtless and inconsiderate and X Cruisers is not the place to be doing that.
If you know of products you'd like to let people know about, it's O.K. to supply that information but it is not O.K. to advertise or link to competitors that sell these products.
Please have some respect for where you are...

Now you are comparing apples and oranges again.

Is this forum owned and run by a company that sells motorcycle parts?

NO.

If I advertise my website here am I competing with the owners of this website?

NO.

It's far from being the same issue, but, you already knew that.

For a direct competitor to post an ad on our forum is an obvious insult.

Are you tired of this mindless bantering yet?
I am ...

I'm not.

It's obvious to me from perusing "your" forum that it would be an insult for any competitor to advertise or post a link to any product or service that you didn't endorse.

Let me distill it a bit further......

Your "forum" is a vehicle to advance your website so that you may increase sales to your 'forum' members. It would be counter productive for you to allow any foreign advertisers on 'your' forum as that might decrease your sales, which is your bottom line unless you are receiving some form of gratuity.

In addition......

As a paid advertiser on this website I find it disturbing that you continue to make notation of your commercial website as well as your sales vehicle, your forum. That very practice flies in the face of honesty and operating above board.

The bottom line.........

Play by the rules. Don't bend them. I'm familiar enough with the owner of this site as well as the moderators to know you are pushing the envelope. It's a great site with good people, most of whom I've had the honor of meeting personally. Don't cut yourself off at the knees by being obstinate. You know as well as I do that expunging is a mere keystroke, a keystroke that has a certain finality to it.

By including my url as my signature you feel threatened?
Be serious!
I 'm not advetising products here.
There - I've removed my signature now.
Satisfied?
Probably not
Quit trying to twist the facts.
Read my posts.
Have I been selling parts?
No, I have not
I have been paticipating here as others have been.
The fact I've been riding over 40 years gives me more experience and knowledge base than most people but I'm still here as an enthusiast.
My company sells very few parts people here would be interested in or I would pay this sites $50.00/month advertisers fee.
I'm here because I purchased a Rocket 3 last April. Nothing more. My business is doing extremely well and I don't need to expand my customer base. My wife and I only operate Xchoppers 4 days a week because we get more business than we can handle! We are a "mom & pop" shop only.
Your public attack has done way more to publicise my business than I have.
Isn't that counter-productive for you?
Quit fishing.
You're not catching any...
