the back rest is independent of the seats( front and rear) there is a small steel frame bolted to the fender with a female rectangular protusion standing straight up flush between the two seats about 3/4 inchx1/2. into which the male part of the backrest slide in about 3 inches this back rest slide in or out by hand straight up or down .
