When it was made or when it was registered? How do you refer to YOUR bike?
The bike was OBVIOUSLY made BEFORE 2010 as it was only registered early January, any moron can see that. The fact that it was REGISTERED in 2010 means that most sensible people would call it a 2010 bike. Not being anally retentive, I don't put in my posts " my 2010 REGISTERED bike which was actually built in 2009" I would lean towards "2010 bike"……surely most people would.
At no point did I say I knew everything, I'm asking for help and it seems people just want to slag me off….nice welcome that is….thanks!

Simon

yes it DOES state Classic on the side panel, that's why I called it a classic.

I never slagged you off wtf I was just trying to identify what you had.
and yes its a classic but not 2010. rockets in 2010 came out with abs brakes and if you try to order certain things for a 2010 rocket they wont be compatible with a classic . but hey call it anything you want i dont give a rats arse .

enjoy your 2010 classic take care of it too its the only one in the world

So can I call my 2008 Standard a 2010 Standard cos it was not registered till February 2010.

Really Simon Mitch was trying to help you because as he said there are some major changes that happened about the electrics particularly the ECU, the 2008 and 2010 are electronically similar but also different as they also started to address some other electrical issues in 2010.
Getting to your problem thou I think you must have dead short somewhere as whilst connecting the battery you should not be getting speedo flashing up and the faint tick you hear is probably just the starter/headlight relay.
When you do find your short and get thing to work you will need to connect up with TuneECU to clear error codes that will have registered while you have been switching on and off with coils and fuel pump, my advice would be to get the coils and fuel pump assembly before you do anything else then check ALL the wording going to and from ignition as I would almost bet my last dollar that it has been tampered with and caused a dead short.

Now be a nice guy and apologise to Mitch for getting Antsy with him

Forget all the year, name stuff. I'd like to hear more about how the bike got to be where it is now. Howe'd you come across it? How much did it cost you? I wonder if the engine is "all together"? on and on........................

LOL !!!! ..........You just want hear the gossip don't ya

OK, sorry Mitch,
I guess I AM a touch…er….touchey about things (it's an age thing) (oh and it's a bought a bloody bike that won't run thing) (and lets not forget it's a selling the house thing) it was NOT my intention to come across as a smart-arse (and reading my posts back, that's how I would see me)
There ARE parts on the bike that are date stamped 2008 looking more closely (just noticed my ECU is stamped 1/9/2008!!!!!!!) so I guess it is relevant.
Sorry again, genuinely bad day over here for me. And as I've just bought a three year old bike that could be five years old, it's not getting any better!

Simon

Don't worry the 08 s were the start of a lot of improvements you'll be right

Don't fret too much. We tend to be sorta smartassed ourselves here from time to time. If it turns out you have an '09 classic (which it looks like) you have one of the better models (IMHO) of Rocket!! I am looking for just such an animal myself. When you get the missing bits fitted keep this post alive and I'm sure that the folks here will be happy to help.
