Last time I was in Arkansas (last year about this time). My wife and I were camping. We took the R3 in the bed of the truck and pulled the camper down to Bull Shoals lake. We decided that since the sky was perfectly clear and the fish weren't biting, that a bike ride was in order. After about 15 miles of beautiful twisting roads we came around the mountain and there it was, the darkest nastiest cloud bank that I've seen in some time. Now I live in Nebraska, and when storms roll in you can see them coming for miles. Well we stopped, put on rain gear and turned around. The storm soon caught up with us and the rain was falling so hard that I couldn't see a thing the water was pouring across the roads and I was slowed to 20 mph. The bike was running in six to eight inches of water and no where to pull off the road. I could hear my wife praying her rosary behind me (this is never a good thing on the motorcycle!!). Luckily we finally came to a picnic shelter and pulled in to wait it out. Now I don't mind riding in the rain, but from now on when I'm out of state, this high plains boy is going to check the weather forecast before leaving on an extended mountain ride. Rain or no rain I'll be in ES Friday!!!!:)

Told a friend of mine today about the upcoming ES trip, he was at ES last year for a bike meet anyhoo a couple of weeks before a load of hells******s were in town and one ended up on the marble slap, long story short do not speed and the cops pet peeve in ES are loud pipes if the pipes are to loud they will nab you.:D
But to nab you they have to catch you first:p

Stupid question...I think....?

We have a resident meterologist amongst us.....HeR3tic.....

I have a question that I posed to my wife this evening and of course she said ask you konow who so I will....

When they have a hurricane like this and it's over open water like the Gulf and away from any population, why can't the ANG fly one of their big C5A's over the eye and drop a bomb in the middle of it? I'd think (that's dangerous) that a couple of thousand pounds of plastic expolsive detonated in the atmosphere in the center of the eye would disprese the thing, or maybe not. I don't rightly know but considering how much damage it's gonna do...Billions, you'd think it would be at least worth a shot??

Now, I don't know squat about weather other than it's drier than a fart around here and I have a feeling that Gunshots and I will be getting wet arses before we get to Eureka Springs...Maybe we should change the name to Leaker Springs cause I'm probably gonna feel like I peed my drawers long before I get there.

Lots of good it will do...........

I have a trailer, 3 place sitting in the yard. I bought it to haul around the sidecar outfit. If I could, I'd throw it toward Texas.......

Looks as though Gustav is a Cat 3 storm. It just made landfall as I type this. I did a long range NOAA for ES and it looks really good for this weekend with moisture on days before and after.

One thing about the Rock. It's heavy and it's very stable in cross winds. Been there and done that. It's a kin to driving a loaded truck, it just slices through gusts with little sideways movement. If I was on my KLR, I'd get blown right off the road.:D

thanks anyway........

hey flip,

thanks, it's a nice gesture on your part. and by the way, your prayer was very well received. looks like it will be taken to hard task on this trip! :) yes, it's the thought that counts. don't forget to bring 1 1/4 " t-bar clamps ( 2 of each ) if you have them available, o.k. ?

Will do.

Just be careful on your trip. Even if you guys have to take an extra day, so be it. Life is much too fragile and fleeting to put yourself at risk.
