rocket or harley road king

Had mine less than two weeks and 500 miles - it's filthy. Probably down to the fact that I left it outside on Friday night and that saharan rain we were all warned about made a right mess. Cleaning up tomorrow if the weather's nice...

guys thanks this info is great and your reviews are well respected thankyou

JMTC..I have both bikes, i find the RK just a little bit easier to handle with a lot less power but i wouldn't kick it out of bed for eating crackers. The Rocket is the RK on steroids. The biggest problem i find here in my neck of the woods is finding dealers that know what they're doing and won't charge you an arm and a leg for parts and labor. I used to wash and wax my bikes every weekend now only twice a year Spring and Fall, depending on how dirty they get. The Rocket has been the most expensive bike that i've owned to maintain, but where you live you might have the advantage to access cheaper parts and labor.
I'm pretty sure Harley discontinued the Roadking this year...

I always get a laugh out of those bike ads that say "never ridden in the rain" as if it's meant to be some kind of selling point. If someone doesn't want to get their skirt wet, that's fine. But keeping the bike dry????

Some of it is a question of choice or necessity. I used to ride a motorbike to work everyday for years even through several inches of snow out of necessitybut now i ride just for pleasure and it the weather is crap, I simply choose not to go out.

I have to confess , i bought a Brand new 4 cly turbo car last week , itll be doing the majority of trips to work the bike will be ridden on Fridays when the traffic is worst...................

Hello Dave and welcome from Virginia. I am one of the guys who ride all year; put 20K miles on my 2014 R3T the first year.
I also admire the Rk as it was on my short list before buying the Rocket. In almost all areas, the Rocket out-preforms the RK except in slow speed competition like the Top Cop trials. It is hard to beat the RK there as it handles very well with great balance. With that said, last Independance day I was only beaten by a Sportster in the slow speed races on uneven grass while riding my R3T. (I am not supposed to mention the wienie races as pretty Pillion is shy about that so I won't).
My bike is seldon clean but it is never dusty. I squirt it off once in awhile and try to keep the wheels clean as they are the roughest part of the bike to stay nice. The bike is as easy to clean though as any other big machine, the bags come off easy enough as does the wind screen.
The RK has a shorter wheel base which I think makes it a bit rougher on the highway but that may just be my opinion. For me, the R3T is a perfect mix of all things I like in a sturdy road bike.

Rain , hail or shine .. me too ;) as was wisely stated if you don't like riding your RK in the rain buying a RIII probably ain't going to change that .. don't own a car , works for me.
