Rocket Fairing quest

awesome looking bike

Lonzol;

awesome looking bike. is that fairing a frame or handlebar mount? being a HD part what type of price tag comes with it? any chance of posting a "how-to" for us more challenged riders?

The fairings are frame mounted. If you can get the mounting bracket that bolts to the rear of the headlight bucket, it is a huge advantage. I did one with and one without.

The first problem is finding a fairing, then what all you get with it, ie. mounting brackets, headlight bucket and lense, guage mounts, etc. Also most of them have some sort of damage, so that must be considered. Then there is quite a bit of modification required to make the wide Rocket front forks swing freely inside the fairing.

I believe they made these fairings in one form or another from approx. 83 to 92, not exactly sure but I think that is pretty close. I thnk they were fit on the FXRT, FXRD, and the FXRP, (police bike).

Having said all of that, I can't say I'd never do one for anyone else, but it would largely depend on what you had to start with. I will be glad to share any info I have learned with ya, doubt there is enough interest for a "how to".

How about I just sell each one of you one of my bikes and I start from scratch.;) I did a much better job on my second one than my first, even put in a big air scoop to get some cool air to my K & N's.:D

Link Removed Any use?

I went to chivasso on my R3 to look at the fairings two weeks ago just to be told they moved back to Torino and was told by the main capo nothing could be seen for the time being in torino either so maybe nothing will come out for a while

I've been spend a bit of time looking at options on this. The "fly screen" from Triumph is actually pretty effective for summer use - but even here it gets cold-ish in winter.

And let me say this loud and clear - I DO NOT WANT A CRUISER SCREEN. NOR DO I WANT AN "ELECTRAGLIDE LOOKALIKE".

Following a bit of r+d repair work on the Buell S3T fairing I offered it up to the R3. It actually looks not too bad. So I've started looking for similar stuff. Found a fair number of fork mounted stuff but stumbled onto a german site last week which offers frame mounted stuff. GSG-MOTOTECHNIK

Amongst them is this

Not cheap but.......
