Roadster down

Just picking up on what Ogre says above, when I test rode an XVS1100 recently (don't ask why - I was having a tyre fitted OK) a guy had just brought it back and said the thing scraped through every corner. When I took it out I could hardly get it touch down at all, and I hammered it. So many people, including journos, complain about cruisers scraping easily. Simple fact is that you just need to get your body over more than the bike. The amount of wear on your pegs or boards is no measure of how fast you're going but rather how you ride.

Simple physics really. The total lean angle in a corner is the same; you just change the relative lean of the 2 components - rider and bike. The more the rider leans, the less the bike has to go over.

Kiss the mirrors? Good advice.

QBE cover all safety gear helmets, jackets, gloves, boots, draggin jeans I'm not sure about ordiary levi's I have to check that out.
They will only cover items purchased from a motorcycle shop, with a reciept. They deduct a percentage depending how long you have had the item. They wouldn't come to the party on my Drizabone and by the time they deducted i didn't have enough to even buy a new open face helmet. QBE been a dead set pain in the arse dealing with my crash claim

So Do Shannons, they cover riding gear, very good to deal with to, mate has had two claims with them no problems

Spoke to Shannons Rep at local bike show and he seen my bike took all details, Insurance for agreed bike value $25,000, all riding gear that meats Aus Standards, and all fitted bling. Now when I add anything just send receipt and its added to policy, cost of all this half compared to QBE.

Might have to look into Shannons. I use Swan; cheaper than others I found and seem to cover everything, although haven't had to claim anything (and hopefully never will).

Same HereI could not believe it when they gave me Quote tad over $600 and that is for the Honda ST1100 as well, yes 2 bikes St1100 valued at $13,000 Rocket $24,500 and it only cost aTad over $600 oh and they don't have problem with DS Tyre as long as it ain'the cause of crash

QBE insurance$655 Shannons $330 Same Richard, I haven't had to claim anything (and hopefully never will)

Q.B.E. are just over 500 for roadster but I have been with them for 20 years and had max no claim bonus. Might have to look at Shannons when comes due.

Concur! Scraping pegs (aka hero bars) sounds cool and all, but in reality it's poor technique. Scraping is the bike telling you you're rapidly approaching it's max lean angle; not advised, as the op found out the hard way.

Glad the op (and wife) were not seriously injured! Chalk it up to lesson learned.

There is a trap associated with this, going two up into a good lean and hitting a depression on the curve. The shocks compress more than usual and you scrape more than you bargained for. Unless you have explained to the pillion rider that you want them to lean off the bike with you, you would probably just hook into the corner.

Thanx for the wake up call I am 2 up regularly and I have put the pegs down without intention, reason was exactly as you say... time to ease up a little I think, don't want to damage my precious cargo

Cheers for that
