Rider to pillion 2 way communication

Greetings fellow R3ers
I am in the market for a comms kit and would like to hear the good andbad from current users.
I use 3 different helmet designs, full face, openface, openface with a visor and would seek an easychangeover between them.
Clarity of comms is important as I am slightly deaf!
I would not mindif the kit was hard wired between me and the pillion if the clarity was better.

Hope you peeps can offer someguidance.

Hi from S Florida. I am also hard of hearing and several years ago my riding brothers and I had planned a trip. We thought having communication between us would make the trip safer and fun...we had the boom type mic's and in helmet ear pieces...full face and half helmets....It just didn't work for us...volume had to be turned way up to compensate for wind noise, and loud clicking noise when mic button was depressed actually hurt my ears, not to mention the turned up volume to inflict further hearing loss....Bottom line, we found that old school hand signals worked best!

The newer comm systems are much improved over those of even just 5 years ago. Your biggest challenge is finding a system that will easily convert between your different helmets.

Cardo Systems makes the Q1 Teamset which is geared toward Rider/Passenger use. You can purchase a second mount/mic set for an extra helmet. The comm module simply slides off and on to the second helmet.

If you want to move the comm between helmets I would recommend getting one with a boom mike and than using ear buds for the speakers. Like tdrager said you would only need a second/third mount to move between helmets.

I find the Scala Q9 works really well for bike to bike. My pillion communicates her 'sentiments' in the time honoured way - a hit in the back when I'm going too fast, press on right shoulder for turn right, left for left and middle for straight ahead/keep going. And the occasional hug when I've apparently been doing something right.

that's why I rarely ride with wife with out leather jacket sharp fingernails don't go through that bad

+1 on this system.....Scala rider makes a pro version that comes with 2 units and all the setup for rider to pillion comm.....its really a nice system.....It is the Scala rider Q2 Multiset pro...again 2 units.....I use it everytime I ride......I pair my phone with it and it has FM radio with 6 presets......also can pair 2 bluetooth devices....like a gps and phone or ipod.........there is a priority for how the system handles multiple requests.......intercomm is first...then phone...then gps or something like that....complete with chargers and I believe a 7 hour battery life.....have not had any issues.....it also has a VOX activiation for comm.....ive read reviews that this is a pain but I have had no problems....sometimes I have to make a beep sound to reactivate the comm but it works.....i dont think you will be disappointed.....good luck!

Have decided to give the Scala bike pro system a go and have just placed order with Amazon.
Will post comments when I have tried it out.

Canberra and Kmut,
Does the Scala Rider product have the option to run off the bike battery? I have an HJC IS-MAX BT helmet with the Chatterbox XBi2-H Bluetooth headset and I have an accessory cord that plugs into it and to a lead to the battery. Never have to worry about having enogh juice on a long trip.

Helmet is pretty quite to.
