Are the guys who are having gearbox problems reporting it to NHTSA?
If no one reports this safety issue no one except us will ever know about it

It's also a safety issue because it can cause the rear wheel to lock up resulting in loss of control of vehicle!

That exact thing happened to a few roadstar riders in 2000 and it was traced to faulty washers. A few guys pushed it hard and Yamaha had to do a complete recall.
