The first time I got to the zero miles to empty on my GT I was in a very desolate area about ten miles from a station. Thankfully it made the ten miles and still had about three quarts of gas leftIn the tank. Many times subsequently I have reached the infamous zero miles till empty and usually I had a gallon or so left. However on a recent ride I was about five miles from home when the zero till empty appeared and this time it wasnt lying. About a mile later It ran out. On the freeway, at night, in a drizzle. My point is dont become complacent like I did and assume you can still go many miles after the zero till empty indication. Dont trust that sucker!

Over the weekend, got the final timer with remaining miles to empty countdown which is actually cool especially with the gas mileage next to it. Was starting to worry but I got to a station with 2 miles to empty.
But filled the tank with a little less than 4 gallons. So I guess there's at least 1/2 gallon after the Zero. However, based on the OPs story this may not always be the case.
As Dr. D stated, I also do not like to ride like that and usually fill my bikes when there's at least 50 miles left on the gas range. Not worth the hassle and the wasted time of being stranded.

Range to empty....187 kms.

Leave home. Ride 32 kms.

Range to empty now 26 kms.

True story.
I've left home, ridden 140km and the range to empty has increased. All depends on what the computer's calculation is based on fuel consumption and mileage.
My MT-01 that I owned was great as the trip computer would zero when the reserve light came on and would start counting so you knew how far you have traveled since you hit reserve. To me that's a lot more useful.

I hate the mental anguish thinking that I am about to run out.

Oh and who knows if the fuel pump really picks up those last few ounces of fuel?

On my old model I deliberately ran it out one time, put in five litres I carried with me, then filled the tank.

Figured the pump stopped picking up at about the half-litre level.
