R3T Tire Replacement

Well its time to go tire shopping again. I've tried the Metz and Avon Cobras after the short stint with the OEM Bridgestones that self destructed.

I was planning on trying a set of the new Bridgestone Exedra Max tires, but I have one concern. They are load rated at 71 which translates to a max weight of 761 lbs. The Metz are rated at 77 (908 lbs) and interestingly the Avons are rated 71 front and 77 rear. Also on the Avon the front is V rated vs H for the rear.

Since the R3T has a dry weight of 789 lbs, I'm a bit concerned that fully loaded the weight will be substantially more than the tires are rated for. The majority of my riding is at speeds of 65-85 and in higher than average temperatures. Those parameters coupled with the weight issue has me a bit hesitant to try the Exedras. Also, Bridgestone does not list the Rocket in their fitment guide.

So, has anyone put any significant mileage on a set of Exedra Max tires on the R3T? And if so, any issues? I really don't want to go back to another set of Metz, but they seem to be the only tires rated for the weight of this moose.

But yours is not Touring is it? the guys running the Excerdra Max on Classics and STD's not to mention Roadster have all been raveing about them

You're right. Big difference though is the Exedra 240 rear is load rated at 86. The load chart I've got ends at 80 which corresponds to 992 lbs, so that fat rear tire can easily carry the load. The 180 on the R3T is the problem.

Started one the first of the year. 6'2" 178# at last check. 3 more pounds and I'll be at the weight I was when I got out of boot camp in 1965. Unfortunately the weight seems to be distributed a bit differently now.

I'm on my second Exedra Max on my Touring now. I guess I liked it enough to go for it a second time. I did not like the front tire though. This second time around I've put a Shinko on the front which is not as strong on the sidewalls but handles better IMO.

I recommend the Exedra Max on the back. I weigh in fluctuating between 215 to 225 and never felt scared about it. Took it all loaded up on several rallies, even one that took 8 hours straight on the highway to get to last summer in the 110 degree heat. **** miserable trip.

The tire handles well, lasted me about 10,000 miles, and is priced right. Go for it.

Tires

I just finished replacing both tires on my R3T with new Exedra Max V rated Radials. The cost for both tires was $276 U.S.D.. I mounted 'em myself bein' the mechanically inclined tightwad that I am. Not dissin' ya just my own experience. Marty

The Exedra Maxes that I put on were 71V front and 77V for the rear. I don't have that many miles on them, yet, but overall they are superb. Marty
