R3 Headlight replacement bulbs?

HID Conversion kit, about 100 dollers per bulb but you have to find somewhere for the ballast boxes about the same size as a cassette tape. claim to be 8x brighter than standard bulbs and shine 60% further. you can get them on e bay.

Be careful with CHEAP HID lights. I have read many documented cases where the balasts fail, thus causing 85volts to surge through the electrical system and fry EVERYTHING!

It seems to mainly affect cheap kits from that Olympic country recently, and generally available on Ebay and cheap spare parts outlets.

The globes may be made in Germany, and are pretty much a muchness, but the balasts and fitting kits are another thing.

If you want HID, buy reputable brands like Hella or Narva, at least they will be around if you do have any troubles :)

As a side note, HID are much brighter, but they tend to through a narrow vertical beam in QH headlamp enclosures. The other problem is, the cheap globes/kits are only HID on high beam and halogen on low beam. The full HID globes/kits are twice the price

Cheers

I agree the best choice is extra driving lights. I got these on mine and they really light up the road at night and gives me 4 points of light coming down the road during the day. Have you ever noticed while cars are getting ready to enter the road up ahead of you and they don't seem to see you at first and stop at the last minute? After I installed these lights on my R3, cars see me right away now like I was coming at them with a car. When I'm stopped behind cars they are always adjusting their rearview mirror.

easy install and I got the brushed, they match the R3 brushed forks. I couldn't see getting chrome for another $100. I use an aluminum oil based conditioner and sealer (use on boats) to keep them looking good.

I'm running Sylvania Silverstars. They're much brighter then the stockers and they're very reasonable.

I've had SIlverstars on 3 different cars and they burn within a year. I wanted something more reliable for the bike, I didn't want to have to change a headlamp in a trip...

My GF noticed a had a headlight out yesterday as I prepared to launch the rocket so I picked up a set of Silverstar 9003/HB2 ST/2. They are slightly bluish, not the super blue ones and daytime brightness is noticeably better. Lows like like highs during the day. I have not had a chance to try them at night but will let you know.

I still haven't tried the Sylvanias at night, but during a daytime ride yesterday I noticed that I can see my lights reflected on the back of vehicles from a pretty good distance. Previously I could only see that if I was right on a vehicle at a stop light.
