Pure Gas

You will always get poorer mileage with an alcohol blend than with straight gasoline. This is because the energy density of alcohol is less than that of gasoline. So when you fill up with E10, 10% of your fill is alcohol and producing less energy. I don't remember the exact amount, but something on the order of 10% less energy. So to create a given horse power you now use more fuel. Nice, isn't it?

The advantage to running alcohol is that it has a higher detonation pressure, you can't really run rich, and cooling. You can run crazy high compression ratios, nearly what diesels run, without detonation. This is the only way to make good power with it. Watch top fuel dragsters. They burn it straight. They also run an amazing amount of it through an engine. Like I said, hard to be rich. It also helps to keep the engine cool. So if you run a crazy comp ratio with a wicked amount of boost, and don't mind pouring (literally) fuel into your cylinders, you can make something of it.

Otherwise just keep the farmers in business and OPEC smiling.
