Possible future Rocket Captain -- Looking at '15 R3T

Buy it! I bought a Red/Blk 2015 RT3 Friday & hope to get it in a couple of days, replacing my 2005 Rocket Classic.
You will not regret it!

... I would love to set a stereo up but the verdict is out on weather the stock charging system can handle the tunes. ... The idea was thrown in to run a second battery in the stock air box to handle the extra electrical demand.

... Good call on the stock charging setup -- I was talking with @DEcosse about his setup with PDM60 and was hoping the PDM60 might assist with running the fairing but not sure if that supplements the stock charging or simply routes power....

The last question first - the PDM60 is just a distribution module - it does not add any supplemental current, it draws directly from the battery/generating system.

First question - it really depends on what you are adding!
A head unit with a built in amplifier driving external speakers - no problem!
The example @jholen gave with the WideOpen kit with a JVC HU/amplifier is only 10A max so WELL within the stock battery/generating system.
Adding a 1000W external amplifier? Now that's a whole different story!

The generator is good for 37A at 2k rpm (41A at 6K)
The std bike load of the R3 is going to be in the order of about 15-18A which still leaves about 20A of overhead for accessories.

So no subwoofers? Norm gotta have dat bass! Thanks for the info. If I ever get to that point I'll probably mount the speakers to the bars. I'll PM the setup to you first to make sure I don't burn the pretty bike down.

I almost forgot. Get a red one. THE RED ONES ARE FASTER.
That's the plan!

That's the one I've got my eye on! Cranberry Red/Phantom Black '15 R3T!
You're a godsend of information! Thanks for all the assistance.

I just noticed this in your quote - that should have of course said

(I have edited the original post accordingly)

YOU can put all the same goodies on the ROADSTER as its lighter and has a 240 rear wheel and more horsepower so test ride both models

Got it -- makes sense now how it works.

St. Peter rides the touring. Don't piss him off
Haha

Hello Jholen and welcome from Virginia.
Thanks!

I'll certainly check it out. Suppose I could get leather saddlebags as well.
