This months 2 Wheel Tuner just arrived and mentions Pirelli just announced a 240 width tire for sport bikes. The only other option was the Metzeler ME880 for cruisers and choppers. (tell me about it) .."excellent for them, it simply was not made for a sportbike." Magazine goes on to say that most tires are made outside the US and as such the need for a high performance sport tire in such a fat size just didn't exist.

" Perilli, however has recognized the need for a large rear tire that's designed for the custom sportbike segment, and has released it's highly acclaimed Diablo in a 240-section."

Now I doubt it is in the tiny diameter we need, but hope springs eternal. I couldn't find the 240 Diablos on the Perilli web site, but come Monday I will start trying to find out if they are available, and if they are, then the rest of you bums just wait your turn.  But if, as I suspect they aren't in our diameter, then we all need to start contacting Perilli in our parts of the country to give them a tiny feeling for the size of the market, and we might be in business. 8) 8)

be appreciated if it was a fit I for one would relish the chance to move off these Metzlers - I had hoped Bridgstone would come to the rescue though.

The problem is fitting it. :( We have all fantasized about it. :D :D  The real problem is the 16 in diameter. :( You can't go wider and still fit the swingarm. :( :( And you can't easily modify the swingarm, cause it is a shaft drive. :( :( :( You can't go to the more common 17" wheel for the same reasons. :( :( :( :( My hope and dream is that Perilli will recognize that Rocket Captains have no peer among tire consumers short of the Moto GP crowd.
ps. On my way to the dealer for rear tire number 4. Bike has about 10,500 miles. Current tire might do another 1,000 miles but has a nail and I am on the road next week, and can't abide a tire with a plug. (This is a legitimate reason to do a burn out when I arrive at the dealer, right? Question is can I keep the bike going in straight line or will I leave a big black line curving off to the bushes?

EJ you are probably on to something. Road surface does matter. When my kids and I were racing Go-Peds we knew certains tracks ate tires so fast we took an extra case of tires to the race. But I am not looking for a commuter tire, just better traction. (New tire every 2,000 miles, yikes) BUT if the tire is hard in the middle, softer on the sides, I would hope that it will stay rounder for the duration. That would be a blessing, hate the last 1/4 of tire life when it gets squared off from the long freeway runs. (Again maybe a local thing, where you are, maybe the twisties are frequent enough to keep it all good., and at ten thousand miles you have worn out the whole tire, not just the center of the tread)
