Now, Canberra; are you honestly purporting that the Rocket sounds better than a good solid single pin crank V-Twin?

I have absolutely no argument regarding your "turning petrol into power" limerick. That is why I own and ride and love my R3R.

Has Triumph spent millions legally attempting to copyright the engine sound of a Rocket? Does every movie depicting a motor, even 2-stroke dirt bikes, dub in the sound of a Triumph Rocket?

My Rocket sounds good to me because I love riding it. However, from the pure esthetics of sound playing in the ear, the V-Twin rules. NOTHING motorcycle wise sounds better than a V-Twin.

I could be wrong; but, I doubt it. Perhaps a vote by all brand owners . . .

I knew I was gonna take some grief on this. I was actually embracing the sound of the many old Indians I continually listened to at the tracks and on the roads as a yute hanging out at my Dad's Indian dealership.

I referenced the ridiculous legal attempts of Harley only to illustrate how huge a brand that sound is. All the V-Twins are indeed of antique heritage just like the You tube link on our thread entitled "The Box Factory". Music to the ears is what it be - at least to an old goat like me.

I spose it's akin to why I prefer the sounds of blues to RAP. Beautiful, nostalgic, memories of a sweeter era and better times.

Bull you obviously haven't got the right exhaust system on your rocket yet. A good sounding motor bike doesn't mean it has to be loud. I love the sound my rocket makes when you just roll it on from about 110kph just nice and steady letting all that torque out. A lot of my mates that ride Harley's have commented on how good my bike sounds when it's doing what it does best. As for these new twinncam Harleys they don't sound as good as the Evo's do. I think the best sounding bike ever built is a Triump Trident or BSA Rocket with a good 3 into 1 system on it. Like Hanso said that potato,potato,potato even if it's coming from an Evo or better still Shovel gets a bit ho hum.

Shovels and Evos sound ok .. twinkies and V-Rods just don't do it for me. Never really heard an Indian (other than a Scout at full noise trying to keep up with our Bonnies) .. so can't comment on them. Harleys with noisy pipes annoy the ****ter out of me .. flatout refuse to ride behind them ... which is not difficult

I not be talking about "potato, potato" here, or loud just for loud sake.

As Bruce Ozzie says wickin' it from 68.2 mph on my 125" V-Twin is SWEEEEEET sounding. Better than my R3R for sure. The sound is so nice that I find myself turning my head from side just to side in order to totally absorb my ears and better soak in the sound.

I have TORs and it has taken me awhile to warm up to the quiet and gentleness of the sound. Powerful, deep, absolutely; but, not music. The best I have heard my R3R is when I fired it up with just the crossover on before putting on the TORs. I also love the sound of the old Bonnies, BSA and fondly remember the sounds of my 1956 AJS and 1965 Norton P11.

I have never been a Harley lover - or hater. Truth is, as an arrogant snot of 19, I used to ride downtown to the Harley shop (where the owner and mechanics were all old friends of my Dad) on my Norton and choose them out to race. I did very well until one week they apparently has enough of my wise young ass and their mechanic-racer rolled out the company track 45K (similar in sound to the Indian Scout 45 side valve. He fired that sucker up, took awhile to warm it up and then proceeded to grease my ass up and back in a three block run.

I also love the sound of a high screaming four cylinder, sounding off like a formula Ferrari. Sound is indeed in the ear of the beholder; but, IMHO the Rocket is not among the best sounding motors on two wheels.

Like these of some of my family.

Come on! There is nothing like the sound of a Harley V-twin. Nothing close. Sure, I love the sound of revving out my Carpentered R3 but my son's 100 inch Sportster has the sound of my R3 beat by a mile. The V-Twin with the 56 degree cylinder angle is the perfect sound formula and there is no shame in recognizing this!
Give it up!

I think the Rocket has a unique sound. My Harley buddy thinks my Rocket sounds meaner than a Harley. I like the Harley sound just fine. I am talking opinion not fact. Because my likes are subjective not factual. So I wiki not be arrogant enough to point out how stupid some people are on here calling other people out on what they like. No i am not arrogant at all you little specks of Fecal Matter. But my opinion, I like the high revving engines. The higher the red line the better I like it. The quicker to redline the better I like it. I like the Nasty.

Also you should judge an exhaust by an audio clip. The true sound will never be captured. The sub sonics and harmonics outside of our range of hearing. Not even close.

MMMMM very interesting post not sure whether think you are borderline on being upset or trying to be smart but just so you understand I too have lots of Hardley owner mates and I stir them just as they stir me but at the end of the day we just laugh because WE ALL RESPECT EACH OTHERS CHOICE I particularly love calling the BMW's Sewing Machines, we All Ride Together and Drink together and We all belong to different Forums where we poke sh1t at other brands in other words WE ARE Just Having a SH1T STIR Buddy O'l Pal
