I have no idea if there's any difference in the 2 TPS units. I can tell you my experience with Peter was positive. My 08 R3T broke down 50 miles from my house when I was on my way to Maggie Valley last year for RAA. The lifter shaft for the shifter snapped in half. I didn't have any issues with the repair as my bike was under warranty. It did, however, cost me $60.00 in gas to tow my bike to the dealer. I didn't know if Triumph would pay for it or not, and didn't have an expectation of them doing so, but thought I'd call and give it a shot. I spoke with Peter. He was very nice and informed me that, while Triumph wasn't obligated to do so, they would pay the tow bill as he regretted that the bike broke down and cost me from going on my trip.
I thought that was pretty cool because, as Peter stated, Triumph was certainly not under any obligation to do so. I can promise you you'd NEVER get Harley to do that. In fact, you'd be lucky if you could even talk to a Peter type at Harley, and don't even think about one the jap companies doing it.
Bottom line, however, is while it's nice when Triumph does these sorts of things (and, they're pretty darn good about it), I don't think it's fair to expect them to pay for everything that goes wrong with your bike; especially a 5 year old bike. We all know (or SHOULD KNOW) the terms of the warranty when we buy the bikes.
