2006 Triumph Rocket III Classic
Heard a noise at very low speed and took it to my service center! I told Jeff the owner/service manager I thought it sounded like a bearing ! He was jammed up with work but I got it back this week after a month! I knew it would be a while. It was a shaft bearing, specifically the output bearing. He called back and said Triumph had a kit to fix it so I knew then there had been an issue before. Anyway, engine had to be pulled and kit installed. No help from Triumph with labor as I figured since its a 2006 Classic. Triumph did give a break on the kit and saved me about 200 bucks and I do appreciate that! Jeff gave me a break on the hourly rate also,and I appreciate that also! Got the Rocket back this week and really have enjoyed it! I had a new set of tires put on it while I was there! Thats in another post I'm getting ready to post!
 
you do not have to completely pull the motor to change the ouput drive but you still have to pull the rear and swing frame. Remove rear motomounts loosen the front and swing the frame up in the back to get her out. saves a little time. Did they change the second gear cluster while the had the motor out. its in the full update kit?
 
Yes, the kit had both bearings! The small which was the the input bearing (Ithink) and the output bearing which was the one that failed! The mechanic spinned it on his finger and you could hear it! I think it was his first one to change but its seems to be right! Its the best dealership around me that I've found, unless you know someone down this way? They seem to very helpful! If you know someone closer, PM me if you would!
 
I'm not sure what "kit" your shops saved you $200 on. The up-date kit has a retail price of $209. I got mine for $177. It has ALL of the up-date parts needed to do the entire engine. The kit includes about $2000 worth of parts to cover repairs and up-dates for the output bearings and housing, second gear, clutch, clutch springs, cam chain guides, tensioner, gear, spark plugs, wires, fuel gauge sender, detent spring and a few other wiring up-dates. Gaskets and seals too.
Did I miss anything ?

Sure. Black engine T10000008
Silver Engine T10000009

The only difference is the paint color on the output bearing cover.

Funny story happened last week. My local Triumph dealer needed a kit to do an up-grade this week. The parts manager called me to get the part number.

I bought my up-date kit just to have it. No symptoms. It is sitting on the shelf in my garage waiting for the day I'll need it. I hope I never need it and it is the best $177 I ever wasted.

Can you please tell me where you bought your up-date kit? I would like to purchase one but can't find one on-line. All I got from my local dealer was that it was only supplied to them when they do the warranty work on a bike that they have in their shop. I haven't pushed the issue with them yet thinking I'd ask around here first.

Anybody else who has bought one of these kits just to have one and do the work yourself should the need arise please do share.
