not exactly a rocket owner

thanks for the welcome bit of a shame that we joined under theses circumstances.

thanks Dennsell for the info

so apparently our Triumph shop has contacted Triumph and Triumph have said they wont have anything to do with it unfortunately but that's kind of fair considering its long past its warranty.
Been a few instances where Triumph Australia has come to the party after warranty has expired ... gather what you can in histories of other owners experiences and be .. persistant ( to the point of annoying) you've got nothing to loose giving it a crack. Chris at Triumph Australia 0393819754 helped me where he could. Good Luck.

What happened to our problem?

So I thought I'd up-date this thread as some of you might like to know. so as a re-cap : my old man's 05 rocket was leaking oil out of the drive shaft seal.

So he didn't want to pay the bike shop an arm and a leg to fix the bike.

so him and his mate lifted the bike and dropped the motor out.

Problems found:
-The oil seal was badly worn.
-The removed drive shaft out of the swing arm had no grease on the spline(wheel end) suspected it wasn't moving with the suspension like it was meant be, thus possibly causing the universal joint to come out of alignment from the pivot action in the swing arm and loading up the universal joint(had tight spots in it and sign's of overheating).

Noted thing's:
-removing the torsional damper shaft and inspection of the bearings resulted in no fault found in both bearings but the oil seal (as above) was badly worn.
-on talking with a motorcycle mechanic he had stated the original bearing got no proper lubrication and were prone to wearing out.

Solutions:
-Worn oil seal replaced
-Drive shaft replaced and well greased with correct grease.
-Both bearings on the torsional damper shaft replaced (with sealed bearing on drive shaft end) done just to be sure.
-Bevel drive was inspected as well no problems found in seals bearing's and no oil leaks.

Bike is now all back together been run and has no problems and NO LEAKS!!:D

He has left a bit of advise though if you have the know how you should remove the drive shaft and check for proper lubrication and while your at it check the oil seal (obviously at you own risk and only if you have no warranty)

now this all started from minor spots of oil appearing on the under side of the rear hub, the first place to look is the inside of the rubber boot around the drive shaft if it's wet then you most likely have the same problem with a worn oil seal.

hopefully this is the end of all problems and there will be many more high km rides.

Thanks for the update and advice, Leon. Hope your old man gets many miles out of her now. And I hope he lets you ride the thing.
