Yes my Triumph dealer is like 45 miles one way and 35 in the other direction.

Need the 3 crush rings...Has anyone sourced the 12mm and the other one from a Jap metric shop? Just curious as the Honda/Yamaha/etc shop is 4 miles away and just in case I can not salvage the crush rings...

Thanks....

I though of this as I saw something on the RAT forum about using Jap Crush rings.....

Thanks!

Greg

I purchased six new washers before my first oil change 10.5 yrs ago, at 500 miles I changed the oil and installed three new washers and have used the same ones ever since(75000miles) which has been quite a few oil changes.
Torque(or if you are from the south tork) the sump plugs to the recommended specs do not guess if you do not have a torque wrench please buy a half decent one.(harbor freight does not have a half decent one):D

Thanks guys....

How does the auto parts store look that up? As per the Torque..I have a digital wrench and I think the req'd is 25Nm or 18 Ftlbs....

I have 18000 miles so I will take it easy and perhaps salvage them. How does that Oring hold up for you guys?

In the 40 years of working on motorcycles that 'required' changing a crush ring, I have never changed one and they never leaked. As long as you are using the correct torque and not tearing them up, they will probably last the life of the bike itself. Reuse the ones you have and they will be fine.

Just did my oil change. Rocket doesn't use crush rings, just thick washers with one slightly rounded side. I reused them and torqued by feel... "tight but not too tight" was what my dad always taught me. No leaks!

Anyway xlr8tion when you say 3 crush rings i assume you mean the 3 needed for an oil change. If so the ones Triumph supply as the OEM are aluminium, 23x14.4x3mm (need 2 of these), and 24.0x16.3x2.0mm (1 of these). Copper will do just fine too, and you will get pretty **** close dimension-wise in any local auto parts store.

I have a few used ones which are used so due to the nature of being a softer metal to be crushed and form a seal, their dimensions have changed slightly. However I do have a fresh set just in from triumph and the exact dims of those if my calipers' calibration is good (according to the shims it is) are 22.7x14.7x3.1mm and 24.0x16.7x2.0mm respectively

i hope that helps

Thanks for the responses guys! I got going on my oil change today until I ran into an issue. Some "jackleg" half stripped the front and rear sump bolts so I had to order new ones(magnetic M14x1.5x16) in Daytona Beach. The main oil drain plug was fine except the Crush Ring is missing or stuck to the bottom of the sump pan. I will check the bike and the oil for that. I will tell you whomever tightened these must have used and air tool as the heads on both sump plugs had metal burrs from where the metal deformated.

The oil is pretty black and has a strong gas odor. I am wondering if my fuel air mix is off or I have an injector issue.

Guess who did the last service? A Triumph dealer. NEVER AGAIN.

I have the magnetic sump plugs coming in and will get the oil plug washer if I can not find it.

After this 5K running Castrol RS 4T 10/40 and a K and N 204C-I am switching to a 22u reusable metal filter that actual filters the oil rather than pushing it through the bypass valve.

I am tempted to send some of this oil off to Blackstone.

On the bright side I am thankful I got the rear sump plug out...It was a close one!

Thanks again for all the advice.....My tires, brake pads and battery come in tomorrow...bur that is on hold.

Any thoughts on causes for excess petrol smell coming from the oil (Amsoil) or is that to be expected with 8K miles on the oil?

Thanks!

Greg
