I'll second the checkbook part. Not because you want avoid purchasing, per se, but a test ride is so mind-bendingly fun the idea of "screw looking around, just take this one right now!" is pretty high. Lots of good options out there if you can take your time and look around. It's the taking time part that's hard, post test-drive.
