New to forum and want to buy an R3 but have questions

Name is Phil. I'm considering buying an R3 but have some questions that are probably better answered by someone other than the Triumph dealer. Hopefully everyone here can help me! I found a 2006 R3 Classic leftover with zero miles. Black and red. The dealer wants $14,299. It does not qualify for any incentives because it's an '06.

First does this sound like too much for an 06 even though it's never left the show room?

Also, I've read that some have had problems with their R3. Specifically, the cam sprocket(?) and clutch bearing. Does anyone know if these were corrected with the 06 model year? Another member here posted "I can't remember the series number on the gear update but it was early '06." Does anyone know the series number or a way to identify if this bike is before or after the update?

Hey TNT, thanks for the reply. The bike does not have bags or shield, just a straight '06 Classic. And because it's not an '07 or '08 it doesn't qualify for the OEM promotion of 3.9% financing or $1000 of accessories. When I first saw the bike, I thought WOW, $2000 off list! But after doing a little research I began to question if it was a good deal. Hence, I joined the forum to talk to the "real experts." I thank you for your input.

There are several used Rockets for sale on this site with very low mileage that are still under warranty which are listed around $12,000.00, one which has a Corbin fairing and Corbin beetle bags already installed for sale by JoseyWales. You should check them out as they are already fully equipped bikes at a greatly reduced price with very low mileage!

PC . . . go offer 'em $13k . . . then walk away if he doesn't take it.

Come back in a week and offer him $13.2 . . . then $13.3 etc. etc.

Might take a couple weeks to get the bike, but if he knows you are serious and not just pulling his chain . .. he'll more than likely deal to move an older unit.

$14,300 is a little high for a 2 year old stock bike. But remember in 06 the R3 Classic (Floor boards is a dead giveaway as well as larger seat) they retailed about $16,900. Taking a grand off for each year would put the Classic at about $14900, taking 1.5 grand off would put it at 14K etc. etc.
Not sure how much they loose on the showroom floor, but it isn't increasing in value.

Depends on how bad you want it and how much you've let the dealer know this. If he thinks you're interested . . . he hold out to bring in as much dough as possible.

Don't forget to ask about all their other charges. Dealer setup, shipping, tax title and any other fees. Ask what the out the door price would be before you agree to purchase.

Take your poker face in there and get that hummer!

I had the cam tensioner sprocket problem on my '05 R-3. My dealer's mechanic said he noticed the "telltale sound" after he finished the 10,000 mile maintenance work. Despite my bike was more than 2 years old, Triumph paid for the "repair". Triumph seems to be liberal with their warranty work - even after warranty has expired.

Otherwise when considering the dealer's "price", keep in mind Triumph will stand by that bike for at least 2 years after purchase. That sort of value - peace of mind - doesn't depreciate on the showroom floor!!
 
I paid £12000 for my 05 rocket when it was new because we are all twats in the uk and will pay over the odds for anything.Sorry i cant beleive you only pay that for em i could spit in the yard of Triumph from where i live and we are robbed.God bless rip off ****ing england
 
In April I bought my 08 standard with nothing on it for 15K (14,997 actual) out the door. Then again the dealer had it listed for 16,900 before fees so maybe I;m just good at negotiating. I've spent less than a thousand to get everything on it that I want. SO all told... 16K for my brand new ride.

I'd say keep looking... there are always deals to be found.
 
i paid $13,500. for my 06 classic. i loved it and feel i got a good deal, i did get pretty good financing think it was 4.9 still not too bad..

As far as issues with the bike, after talking to everyone on the web, you hear of timing chain issues and warped rotors etc, so you watch for it, i havent had any issues with mine but at 10k I got a new rear tire, they changed the rear brake pads for $30 bucks, no labor, At 12k i brought up both issues and got new fr rotors and brake pads under warrenty (when i replaced my front tire), not bad... and they said when i bring it in for the valve adj around 16k (before the warrenty runs out) they will replace the timing chain stuff because it is making noise,, so i think they are right, ask and you shall receive.. feels like i got a brand new bike.. yahoo..
But really nothing serious so far and the bike runs like a top. and is fast as hell..
