My BIL has had the problem with the motor revving, sitting up between 2000 and 3000 rpm while riding with throttle closed. Thought it was the TPS as it seems to be a common failure. Well he had that replaced and the problem was still there.
Went back to Triumph and they suggested cleaning the intakes as there could have been a gunk build up and the butterflies were sticking. That sounded a bit like bullsheiser to me but he did it anyway. Result no difference.
Back to triumph in tanty mode this time. Triumph rep rang for help. After about 20 minutes talking to the national expert he came back with another idea...
There is a camshaft sensor under the motor that could cause the problem??? I hadn't heard of this before so listened keenly. He said that this sensor, if dirty or had metal filings on it could cause the same symptoms.. So, they pulled it off and cleaned it. While they had it in the workshop they also pulled the TPS off and made sure it was all secure, apparently the inner workings can become loose.
Well all ended well and the symptoms are gone, bike running like a dream as it should be. Question remains, was it the TPS or this new possibility the camshaft sensor, which I haven't googled yet? They should have done one thing at a time to see which was the problem but didn't.
Anyhoo, something to keep in mind for this revving issue...
