New paint job.. Plain gloss black or something different..?

OK.........Ok..

Ya'll got me......LOL

Truth......I loved the Orange Tribal Rocket......I was in Heat for a Rocket III, so I took the first 05 that the dealer got in.

I did play with electrical tape on the tank just to see what it looked like. I got on the computer and was looking for someone to paint or do a decal like the Tribal. I saw this company on the net called Tape Works. I called them and soon learned that they were less that 20 miles from where I worked.
I went over there and carried the color brochure that had the Orange Tribal Bike in it. Later that week I dropped off the bike and 3 days later it was done. For awhile my bike was on there website.....I haven't looked in many years.

A good friend did the clear coat.....Funny thing........He called me about 3 days into the clear coat...He said "it was going to take forever"....His idea was to not feel the hump where the tape was...My front fender is smooth as a baby's butt..........LMAO:roll:
I do not know how many coats of clear is on that thing...I just wanted it not to peal up if I pressure washed it.

He is one awesome painter............But not the sharpest marble in the bag:D:p.........Shout out to Ron Davis

Less than $ 450.00 in the tape and clear coat.

Thats a great price! I got more than $450 in materials alone on mine. What you are describing is he "buried" the stripes under the clear coat.
I put 3 coats over my stripes, flames, & skull, then wet sanded that clear down to bury the edges and added 3 more coats of clear after that. Sanded down again & 2 more coats of clear. Big process.
So even with only 2 colors on yours for him to only charge you $450.00 is really decent!

I've been think of doing mine pearl white

Pearl white looks REALLY good! But very hard to keep clean. I've seen some posts that you ride in bad weather often. So consider the amount of cleaning you will need to do. Also, Metallic colors hide dirt better than solid colors ;)

Some awesome paint jobs - including the satin black - but that chopped rear fender sure spoils the lines of the bike. In my opinion, the Rocket rear fender not only looks great as is but it's shape doesn't lend itself to chopping. Just my opinion.

Oh..........YES

That is my bike on The Tape Works web site under Triumph

A huge Shout Out to them also. Those guys can make anything. All they has was a few pictures of that pattern.

Eas Tex that $450 was for the tape and paint:D:D:D

A blank canvas on a Rocket, its mind boggling how cool it could be.

All I can say is have an open mind.

Black is not the only badass color also you don't need black to make a Rocket badass.

Also, remember that since your concern was the "high maintenance" of the matte black, gloss black has it's own set of issues.... It is easy to get "swirls" from polishing & scratches show easily in the clear coat so it's really just a trade off. If you are rally concerned with the new paint job looking clean & staying clean DON'T let the same people paint it that did the first job. Find someone who does higher quality work. That's the most important thing. Maybe consider a color that is not so high maintenance. Metallic colors, blues, greens, greys, silver, ect are low maintenance colors - Also, depending on the color you chose, you may want to get rid of the red accent color on the wheels, ect
Big Gun nailed it..... Black is not the only Badass choice ;)

If you like the matte black look but hate the maintenance of a matte finish, you might want to consider a truck bedliner coating like Line-X or Rhino Linings. They're incredibly durable, won't get rain spots, and simple to clean. The look isn't for everyone, but I think could fit well with your bike. Here's a guy who did it to his ride:
