New paint job.. Plain gloss black or something different..?

Well for sure the previous painter ain't going anywhere near it!!! I'm sticking with black, done in water-based paint, then gonna use audi/vw/mercedes clear coat... Its extremely scratch resistant.. I know, I used to own a body shop.. And it was a bugger to blend new lacquer into as it was so hard.. Had to use special thinners sprayed on to it to soften it prior to clear coating. . I intend to have the seat recovered with a small accent of red.. So staying with the red, and it won't be all plain black.

SHAT..! If you owned a body shop and are talking Lacquer............... That was in a time far ago ;) :whitstling:

What the f%@£k are you talking about.. Lacquer / clear coat.. Exactly the same thing, and has been since about 1985..

If you wanna talk about paint to me then crack on.. I've painted hundreds of vehicles and owned a bodyshop for more years than I care to remember.. I've painted from an Aston Martin DB5 worth £350k to articulated truck trailers and just about everything in between including classic collectable tractors to brand new cars.. I've painted in synthetic, cellulose, 2k, water based, you name it, I've painted in it..
The only changes in clear/laquer over the years has been the amount of solvent in it.. The manufacturer takes it out to get their solvent output down to look good to governments.. Then the painter puts it back in to make it flow.. Just like 2k paints were phased out in favour of water based.. To help government say they were reducing solvents.. But then you have to clear coat it..

And I don't own a bodyshop anymore. I retired in 2012.. Hence why I now have someone else panting it

SETTLE THE F88K Down Dude! - I was messing with ya - I know WTF paint is all about - I assumed you were talkin lacquer as a base coat to then clear coat over with polyurethane enamel, which is industry standard.......... Your resume is very impressive - I just don't care to pay people to do things I can do my own **** self and I don't ask people what firkin color should I paint my sh*t !
So settle down Betsy :notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy:
