Mustang seat doesn’t fit

Wanted: R3T rider backrest seat

I am about to buy a new seat with the rider backrest. I am confused how the Mustang two-piece seat can replace the single piece OEM seat. Now with several folks noting the mounting issues, I may not go with Mustang. I am about to ride a two day trip to Pensacola in April and then two days back and I need a backrest. I thought Mustang would be easiest, now I have doubts.

I still do not what all of the fuss about needing the side bolts is.One of the first things I did was to remove them and put them in spare bolt bucket.Over 70,000 mi.between my 13’ and 15’ with no ill effects with only the rear bolt utilized.

To my limited understanding, the primary purpose of the seat bolts is security. This is similar to some bikes having helmet loop locks. With bolts, less likely for the curious to take a peak underneath, or the seat just go on a walkabout.

I suppose you've been fortunate in your 70,000 miles (congratulations !) to be riding in mostly safe neighborhoods.

Security from stealing your battery, seat or air filter? Nobody even knows what kinda bike it is. Ok, maybe vandalism ? Not high on the hit list for a professional thief.

The rear bolt still holds the seat securely.

The issue is that the seat is made to be used as a solo seat and a two up seat... the pillion portion just slots into the rider seat.... so 1) if you want to use as solo without pillow portion it won’t stay put, 2) I just didn’t trust the pillow portion to not come out of rider seat at some point due to movement from pillion without the riders seat bolted.....

Ultimately it can be sorted if you’re even a little handy and have a drill and rivets lying around the garage.... but if I had my time again I’d look for a seat that’s just one piece and skip the idea of having a solo rider seat then sure one rear bolt is fine..... I’m also fussy, I like stuff to work as it’s designed to.... being in Aus where sometimes it’s hard to get stuff I’m good at making things work but I also know from experience that over time, said things tend to fail earlier.... oh I also had the experience of having my rear bolt vibrate out and get dropped on the roadway in the first week of owning bike... didn’t inspire confidence in running a two piece seat with one bolt!

Oh and as an update... even after another follow up email I don’t have a response from Mustang still.... sorry but that’s a joke!
