to Dave(the MOD master) or anyone else , if i remove the secondarie butterflies but keep the standard intake system and original fuelling system will the animal still run as per normal albeit without the 7 % restriction , is a tune boy neccessary or will the fuelling be fine , i fancy whippin the plates out but cannot afford the tuneboy (or much else at the minute  still eatin dandelions  ),,i imagine it would be fine in this trim , but thought id seek some advice first, my regards

It was the general conclusion that just the removal of the restrictor plates alone might make the bike a little lean in 1/2/3, however I think consensus is it would be OK.

To add anything else "could" put it over the top I think w/o a fueler. It's hard to tell b/c every tune effects each bike differently, which is why no two same engined bikes dyno tunes are exactly the same.

Danny another thing you might consider, just for tinkering around, is listed here as, "the resistor mod". It involves cutting the wire from the transmission that allows the ECU to determine what gear you are in. If you connect the ecu to ground, via a 680 ohm (close to the needed 700 ohm) resistor on the wire that was used to determine the gear, the ECU will be fooled into thinking you are always in 4'th gear. Doesn't appear to be harmful to the motor, but it does open the secondaries and also it defeats the speed limiter, which kicks in in Fifth gear. Gives a modest, but tangible boost, costs only a few dollars to do, but does involve a cut wire. If you are really clever you will find a source for the plugs, make up a harness that allows you to plug in the resistor mod, and be able to put things back to stock without a mark on the bike. (I never found a source for the plug, so I just cut it, near the end of warranty anyway.)

hhmm turbo , clever i am not , dont read books unless it has pictures in it , furthermore ohms and ground ,,WTF ill grab a mechanic , to help , sounds all abit complex,,

Id say grab a sparky not a mech...

I did the resistor mod...not bad, but later removed all the secondaries and intake stuff..

when I did mine I used a switch.

the resistor mod it seems only works well if you
are running the stock tune,

the tune boy maps have shown us the secondary butterfly positions
in stock tunes have 100% opening all the way through in 4th and 5th

the latest tunes dont change the ignition timing like the first tunes

but it should still knock the speed restrictor off in top gear

I used the resistor mod for about a year
I removed it because i ride in the rain alot and it made it a bit loose
also the tune i have now is 226 and this doesnt suport the mod
(no timing or secondary change for all gears)

I too am thinking about removing the secondarys without using tuneboy
but it is still a gamble

Resistor mod is probably the cheapest, though maybe not so easiest, hack to bypass most tuning restrictions but like ROB said, not all factory tunes are same and to ensure you get all the throttle body restrictions out, you'd have to remove the secondaries too.

But like others said, your fueling could run lean because of that and who knows what other systems you're fouling up by sticking the gear sensor constant. I'd say do it right and get Tuneboy. So it costs a few hundred. How much do pipes cost or even a K&N filter? People need to realize if everyone was a cheap wad, none of us would have jobs, income or our bikes.

cheers for your opinoins guys, ill go with tuneboy as and when i have the readies , no point trashing the motor for a bit of extra wiz, when i do it ill do it properly then ,,
