A couple of weeks ago my wife and I took a long bike ride, as the day was nice. During the ride I switched bikes with my wife. I wanted her to ride my R3, as she rides a Harley bagger and was a bit intimidated by the weight of the R3. Long story short she rode it fine and liked it.

But while she was riding the bike, the right side cover blew off. I was riding behind her so I was able to stop and pick it up. Scratched up pretty good. I had a buddy at a local body shop repaint it. $20.00. :D

I called my Triumph dealer to order a new ribber grommet that was gone and the dealer told me he had never seen this happen before. Yea right! I've heard some here say they have lost theirs!

Anyway, Triumph has a new part number for the grommet. Maybe they made it better. I'm always careful when I reinstall the covers hoping this won't happen.

Which cover? Aren't they bolted?

This is the Touring forum. On the R3T the side covers are held in place by pins through rubber grommets.

And yup, I've lost one and had one pop off and recovered it. The **** things are expensive, something like $300. I ordered several of the grommets from Bike Bandit and will change them periodically. Very poorly designed attachment.

I know this is the "T" part of the forum,
but,
if you'll get you a tube of 3M Yellow Gasket Sealer
for around $3.00, and put some on the inside of the groove
where it slips over the metal hole.
bet ya never loose one again.
It'll adhere to the rubber and adhere to the metal
and sticks like glue, for lack of a better expression.
anyway, it'll stay where you put it, and so will the rubber grommet.

I had 1 of those grommets that kept popping out everytime I put the cover back on, I finally lost it altogether, I now keep a spare in my saddle bag...

He was on the harley,
of course she was faster on the rocket.
then again, maybe he was just being a gentleman,
or like me, just likes the view from behind the woman you love.;)

The covers are plastic. Will that stuff work on plastic? And, how does it work when you need to pop the covers off and put them back on? Will it continue to hold when separated several times?

I'm not sure silicon is such a good idea, wont the Grommets then just pull out of the holes when removing the covers?

I'm pretty sure you would need to glue the grommet on the hole on the bike, not the cover to the grommet. I lost a grommet and found one that works perfectly and looks the same on the HELP! rack at OReilly Auto parts for around 2 bucks. I'll get the part number and post it for you guys in the next couple of days.
