installed the new avon,,short test ride feels real good,,will have better idea after arkansas trip comming up,,what supprised me was how easy it was to install !!! i have been reading what a ***** r3 rears are to install,,because of the lack of drop center wheel,,well mabey i just got lucky,,i used my huffman (snap on ) tire changer and installed just like any other motorcycle tire, plenty of tire soap,,old one came off no trouble,,new on went on no trouble,,,,no damage to wheel, what WAS a ***** was the caliper bracket bolt,,,**** IT,,,thought i was gonna have to use some heat to get it out,,service manual says not to reuse bolt but i did,,blue lock tite instead of whatever triumph used,,all in all (other than the bolt from hell ) it was quick and easy GRAY DOG

Initially used cheater pipe but finally broke down got the 1/2" 2ft breaker bar for those pesky uncooperative times with hardened impact converters from my friendly discount tool distributor. It broke my Thorsen 3/8 breaker bar.

avon

all i can give is my personal thoughts,,the tread is deeper in the center to start with,,,should last longer,,the profile of the avon is more rounded, and i feel it handles better in the twisties, traction feels same as met. dont know about wet stuff yet, time will tell,,but so far,,,i like it. I will get a picture of my Avons sometime this weekend. I had them put on at 34,000 miles and now have almost 10,000 miles on them and they still look very good.. :)

The only "gripe" I have about them is that the center of the tire is a harder compound, which helps the tire last longer. It also looses traction easily on hard take offs.. The rear Avon is not a drag racing tire.. :) Other than that, I have been more than pleased with them! If I were a drag racer, I would just have two rear wheels.. one with an Avon for every day... and one with a 245 dark side for the drag strip.. :)
