Triumph Storm gt
I began encountering issues after doing a brake bleed when installing mid controls on my Rocket 3 storm gt( specifically the hill hold stopped working). At first I thought it was because the bleed wasnt properly done. Then because I had used incorrect brake fluid. However after everything had been checked by the dealer without fault found the issue remained . It then began to get worse when all the rider aids including abs and traction control stopped working. The dealer workshop ( not the one i bought the bike from) advised that an electronic control box under the seat was water logged and that was the underlying cause of the issues. After a somewhat lengthy wait a new control box was supplied and installed. The service manager asked if I would continue to leave the bike with them so that they could take it on a few rides to ensure no more issues popped up. I agreeed and within a day they called to tell me that faults were still showing. Out of frustration I asked if they would buy the bike from me which they promptly agreed to. They paid me circa $3500 less than i paid and my beauty is gone. I am simultaneously relieved and upset at letting it go! All i have left are memories photos and an unfitted tail tidy😪

Sad news :(

This is a typical example of why I dislike having all this complicated stuff on modern vehicles.
Once they develop a fault or get damaged in some way, no one can get to the problem and fix it and people are forced to give up or risk big bills in the pursuit of rectifying the problem.

i was really expecting more troubles
because they were having problems with the old models and could not take care of them very good.

Yeah it was a sad day. I think the underlying reason for the decision was that I felt it is pretty unsafe to loose rider aids and especially mid ride. I am a bit lost atm as i dont have a cruiser any longer. There is nothing out there that appeals either.

sorry to hear this news; that sucks

Does it seem suspcious to anyone that a vehicle designed to endure the elements could be corrupted by water? The reason for the malfunctions could have been a single bad sensor affecting the various functions. The hill hold uses a number of sensor inputs to function, as well as ABS and traction control. Your story is sad, but I think it very unlikely the dealer couldn't figure it out, they aren't buying back a bike that can't be fixed, that makes zero sense.

And there is the reason why I’ll not buy a new bike anymore! There is so much stuff included in the electronics, it’s a nightmare.
I blame the Japanese big four over the state of things, each company trying to out tech the other’s bikes. Honda being the main protagonist, with innovation after innovation! Personally I couldn’t keep up, so when I took the dive and brought another R111, it was a pre 2010 Roadster, not even ABS! My other bike is even older, a 1972 BSA A65, only concession to modern times, electronic ignition.

I hear your frustration and I’ve had to shell out big $ on electronic replacements. The other half of the view is the new bikes have better suspension’s and some weight savings giving them a handling advantage. I own both and each has its pluses and minuses.

More tech does add potential for issues but has advantages when working fine.

Good for you. You came out money ahead even with that $3500 loss. These new ones are unreliable and dangerous at the wrong times. So pretty, so very pretty....
