stand up straight and grab the world by the a$$
Hi guys
just finished putting seals in forks. the way i did mine was to leave the outer tubes on the bike. after removing ft. fender, brakes, wheel, ect took the bolts from bottom of yoke unscrewed top fork caps and the whole spring asy came out. one person can grab sleeve and pull down a little. i didn't change my springs. but i think you could make some L brackets and hose clamps to pull the sleeve down to get to the nuts that lock down the fork cap. you are suppose to have a rod to screw on the end to control the spring as it comes off. i would think that a three foot pipe that would fit over the stud still go into the spring would work. i would not try this alone! you could take it to dealer should be cheap this way.
if you do it this way when you load spring asy back in you won't be able to measure the fluid (89mm). you have to go with 667cc (667ml) fill. i used a small funnel placed against the sleeve to get the fluid in. the seals was easy to pull out just pry out with screw driver be careful not to damage surface, when you put in new seal just drive it deep enough to get retainer ring in place. i think that driving them to bottom might be the reason for them leaking.
hope this helps herman
hi
just thought i would say a little more.
if all you are doing is changing springs all you would have to do is remove ft axle, remove the bottom bolt in the fork(the fork oil will come out)then back out the top cap and the asy will slide out.
i was also thinking if you had a tube about a 18inches long that would fit over the damper rod asy you could drill to holes and weld 2 nuts on the pipe take two bolts 4or 5inches long that would screw through the pipe and into the sleeve and that would control spring when you take off top cap.
if you would compare the springs i would like to know the measurement of old and new.
