1st time turned key off to get gas. Switch won't come back on. Jump did not help. Truck home. Test bad battery . replace and charge over night. Start run 20 mile test ride all OK. 2nd time 2 miles later from home going down on ramp total failure no lights no anything at least I did not have an accident due to failure. Called a ...dlr. no help. Removed cover below Ing. switch moved wires around no results. took off side covers wigged wires. Magic switch gives me power head 4 home; make it. Now I am afraid to leave the garage Triumph help line say's take it to Dlr.

I'm no pro but it sounds like a rectifier not charging the battery. I have little experience with triumphs but 20 yrs of Honda and that sounds like charging system . I would check rectifier then stator .

I agree, I sounds like a charging issue to me as well. It seems as though I read on the forum that if the battery charge drops below a certain level it will cause the ECU to shut down killing the bike. You need to check the charging status and it's not unheard of to have a "bad" new battery. Do you have the alarm system installed on the bike? That has caused issues as well. I find this little tool to be great for indicating charging voltage, battery status when starting and just the overall charge of the battery. You can get a pretty good indication as to charge level on the battery and charging level with a multi-meter. I like the Optimate because the LEDs stay on and hold the readings during the starting process. They have a new model out that also reads Lithium batteries.
My guess is your ignition switch is fried. The amperage to the headlights is routed thru the ignition switch unless you have installed relays to take the load and it takes the switch out eventually. Either replace it or take it apart and re-solder the wires
