Heated Throttle Grip Tab Broke on Busy Interstate Ramp

I think it is defective plastic, or rather it doesn't like being heated a lot. But yes, it is also easy to over-tighten the throttle, I did that just the other day (been switching cables in and out, ordered new ones but got the wrong length so on the old ones went). The stock cables are more one piece though, harder to feel when they're just right, with aftermarket cables where the elbows are separate pieces all you have to do is gently tug on the casing and you can see when you have just a little bit of play.
 
I decided to open up my grip clam shells and inspect the Kury Iso grip I installed after the heated grip failure, partly to see if a cheap Ebay Sportster throttle grip wd work in a pinch. It looks like it's a bit loose but wd get me home.

I discovered the 3 week old grip tube had some divots from the throttle rest inside the clam shell. I saw this on another site or here so I'm not taking credit for this discovery.

So I filed down the throttle stay area inside the clam shell and reinforced my grip tube tabs with some JB Weld where they were worn. I will clean the JB Weld up after it dries if it needs it.

I once fixed a carb float pivot with JB Weld on a XS650 and it held for a couple of years before I sold the bike. If you've riden an XS650, you know they vibrate like a paint can mixer. I've also repaired a broken bird bath with the stuff.

Anyway, I'll see if this works.

Seems like Triumph might want to see the vendor about this problem. My guess is they know.

Reprise. Now after 8000 more miles, my Kury throttle grip tab broke (see pic). Does someone make a metal replacement? The first time it was the Triumph heated grip. This time the Kury grip. I did have a back up plastic throttle sleeve in the bag, so I nursed it home. I had to grind it to get it to work before I put it in the bag. Maybe the throttle needs to be set up a little looser? Any advice?
My wife says it's dangerous, which it is. How efffeed up is it that a $17K "Touring" bike has the cheap throttle sleeves that break? I'm pissed. I read about this weakness on the Tbird too.

Wanted a Rocket 3 for years got one last week ( 4 years & 4000mls ) first ride out and throttle broke , wasn't aware of this problem so no spare , is a metal replacement available?
 
There are indeed several metal grips available for Harleys. iirc BILTWELL gets the better ratings. Search forum - I posted before somewhere.

If you don't want/need heated grips - there are also billet grips with integrated tube/rubber available - I have a set of Chinese ones somewhere (I ordered just to see).
 
Yeah, the Biltwell "Whiskey Throttle" 1-inch should work, though I haven't tried it. That's all-aluminium. The throttle on these are pretty normal. If you want to keep using the stock bar-ends, there is probably some modification required.
