Hard at it

OK ran up against a problem with replacing front brake pads. #amn retaining pins are frozen. Stock fist time replacing front pads. they are supposed to be torqued down to 18 NM. think the factory over did it a bit. Buying new pins but the only method i know of is to cut the pin and then drill out area were it threads in very carefully. Chase threads and install new pins. Done this many a times on Harley's. Anybody got a better Idea?

Wonder if they put loc-tite on them?

They more than likely did and not the blue stuff. Idiots. Same with the Harley's the first time you replace pads is shi%s and giggles.

Also did you try a good penetrating oil like krill or maybe a hand impact tool?

Yes tried the penetrating oil. Did all that yesterday. 18 NM should not require a impact tool. More than likely a over shot by the factory. Easy fix if we are careful. Have enough material on pads left until new parts come in. Just really wanted to try out the new EBC pads i have.

I was thinking the type that you gave a whack with a hammer they are good for loosening bolts when there is corrosion from the elements.

The problem with them is the Hex head rounds out too easy due to the soft metal they are made of. Had to replace mine too Sonny

I believe it is aluminum. Bad idea going into cast. OH well easy fix. just wanted to get the EBC pads in and see how they work. Going to get some new ones and add Anti corrosion stuff vice lock-tight . Been here done that.
