Group Ride Etiquette

My Dad used to say it's no good getting old without getting cunning ,I say old age and treachery beats youth and speed every time!

Ken, Sea story time, Just before I hit my 20 year mark in the Navy, they lowered the high year tenure on everyone which meant I would have about 3 months till forced retirement. I petitioned my admiral to give me more time and one of the key phrases I used when talking with him was, "I know the new kids have all this youthful, vim and vigor, but that won’t stand up to dirty old man tricks”. He bought it and I got an extra year to find a real job…

Ms. Sweetnezz says they were riding to trigger lick road?!?!?!?
Pretty much says it all, eh?

Based on my experience in RAA 9, I added another important issue to consider to the list in post #1.

Way to many rules for me , i hope RDU isnt so strict, takes the fun out of it..........

we just use Common sense as a rule that and look out for your mates, over the years of having ridden in group rides I have found it best not to have to many rules, as long as you feel comfortable with those around you alls good if not drop back a bit but the most important rules that you know where you are all going and can keep an eye on the riders behind you so if one drops off (due to mechanical or what ever) you can stop to see why and if everyone does the same (keep an eye on the mirror) there is no reason for the group to become to segmented

I have found the group usually sorts its self out after a few klms and the fast guys usually back off a bit if they are getting too far in front ,as long as the front runners look out when they stop for fuel or what ever for the following guys ,and don't drive around the back of servos ect out of site, and it helps to have some sort of prearranged stops for fuel/rest stops ect , I prefer to be a bit of a tail end Charlie so as not too slow up the guys that travel a bit faster,,it is amazing how little time it takes to catch up with the front runners once they catch a slower moving vehicle or red light .
