Still kicking it around, but after reading many old posts and getting some good options from many Captains on hard saddle bags, I think my hardbag/make it fit with the exhaust sound I'm looking for is gonna be Corbin Beetle bags (freakin $1700, a rip off even if they are great) and a cat bypass with stock exhaust. Looking for a little louder but not obnoxious and from what I've read it will be a good sound (without another $1200 spending spree) and the Corbin's will work with it.

Thanks to all from my other posts looking for hard bag options. Found the tsukayu bags looked pretty good but don't work so well witht he stock exhaust.

find a dealer near you, go in, and ask them if they are willing to do a order at a lower price...
if they say no, thank them anyway, and ask them if they know other dealers that can order corbin in the area

there is some markup...

I'm against using a third party to order you Corbin stuff just to save a few bucks. Take it from my experience. After I refused 3 sets of bags and 2 fairings sent from Corbin to my dealer (just to save 10%) because of bad cosmetic flaws. My dealer got real tired of all the headaches and Corbin double charging them. I eventually got a decent set of bags but I did down the road have some trouble with the wrong paint color on my fairing and bags cracked because of heat damage (from stock muffler position) on the right side. I called the dealer and told them my bag was cracked the parts guy immediately replied "your on your own buddy", we are done with Corbin crap. Well when I went to Corbin with my problem and they asked me "did I buy the bags directly from Corbin or from the dealer"? They said I had to go through the dealer, then I had to explain that the dealer won't work with me or you (Corbin). It took alot of convincing for me to get them to help me and considering Corbin's track record on customer service, you don't need a third party involved, take my word for it. Once I got involved with Corbin one on one it wasn't too bad to deal with them. This is what I would do. Buy your bags directly from Corbin, inspect them carefully when you get them. When installing them, remove your upper pipe on the right side and drill the muffler bracket holes bigger, a 1/2" drill bit should do it. And get your self some "Cool Tape" (Advance Discount Auto) and install some additional heat protection right next to (to the rear) of the existing heat barrier that your bags come with. When you re-install your muffler just rotate it down as far away from the bag as possible and tighten up all the bolts and exhaust clamp. This will give you ample room between your bag and the muffler and your bag will not be burned or melted by the muffler and it improves the reveal between the two mufflers. Since doing this I have had no problems. I have about 3/4" clearance now where before it was less than 1/4".

And as far as removing your cat and keeping the stock pipes, yes I did it and had the dealer install a TORS tune, it may be a little richer than the stock tune but better than too lean and my bike runs great. You may want to get a different muffler clamp between your decat and header pipe, mine leaked with the stock one. I got a new gasket and ordered a better header clamp and fixed my exhaust leak for good. http://www.r3owners.com/viewtopic.php?t ... highlight=

Also off subject but the GIpro w/ ATRE in combination with the decat totally changed my bikes power and feel and I just love it. http://www.r3owners.com/viewtopic.php?t ... highlight=
Good luck, if you need more help don't hesitate to PM me!

Thanks Redrocket,

I unfortunately already went through my dealer for the order (although this dealer has a good reputation in the area) but will take your advice on the pipes. I was reading old threads while trying to make this decision and read some others talking of the same heat damage. Thanks for the info on the bags and the tune/exhaust. I think I'm just doing the bags for now (and pipe adjustment) maybe leave the cat bypass and tune for this summer after I recover from the Corbin beating I'm walking into :x .... I am excited about getting the bags/seeing the bike..... still *****ing about the cost....but I'll get over it.

I come at this from the experience of dropping my Rocket in a low speed U-turn
busting up my $1,700 Corbin Fairing... its true the fairing is so
strong it took almost all of the thump. But....

If I ever could afford to buy the Corbin bags, I wouldn't mount them
until I figured out some way of protecting them in the event of a
low speed or even standing still fall. Some kind of bar should be
possible.

I'm trying to get my fairing fixed now. Corbin said it was a 100% loss
even though it was just scratched and a few cracks.

Wonderful bags though with a great look.

Cheers

Roy

Pugpower,
I'm sure you won't have any trouble with the bags. As far as the cat- bypass. If you want to do it now put a listing here on the classifieds about wanting to buy a used cat-bypass, they are made out of stainless and chances are it will be in good shape. Someone may have one laying around after buying a set of the numerous full exhaust systems discussed here on the forum. I bought mine here for under $200.

Did you hear about the fairing Corbin gave as a replacement for my first one that was the wrong color? It cracked right after I installed it. I examined the area where it cracked and found evidence that it cracked because it was a someone's repaired fairing that was filled with bondo. I am now waiting for my original fairing to get repainted the proper color. Man was I pissed!!! Corbin tried to blame it on Fed Ex.

Hi,

Yeah, we wrote some back and forth about your fairing and mine.

I've found a glass-guy to fix it for me. Not sure how it will come
out yet though.

Thanks

Roy
