Flat rear at speed!

I might suggest purchasing a small air pump and wiring a pigtail connector to your battery. Those CO2 cartridges can be unreliable, and if nothing else they have a finite capacity, unlike a pump.

I signed up for a roadside assistance programs provided by one of the many ambulance chasers that is supposed to give you free 24 hr roadside assistance, free legal consultation, etc. Supposedly they have over 2 million members. The way it works is when you call they contact a biker close to you that comes out and gives you a hand. You are expected to lend a hand when it comes your turn to get called on. Not sure if it will ever come in handy, but hey...they were giving a free bike away at the ROT rally!! What can it hurt?

That's a cool idea, if it works. I've got Progressive, "everything", first of all, I could hardly see the screen on my POS cell phone, and when I dialed Progressive, Flo didn't answer. I got the recording, push this button for this, push that button for this, type in your policy number, on and on. I hung up. Going to try to find a reputable towing company in the area that has experience with BIG bikes, and preferably a real bike trailer. I'd even be willing to slip them a $100 bill, to be on retainer, so to speak. Can you just imagine trying to get a dead, or flat tired Rocket onto a flat bed? NO WAY!

I had a similar experience with a BMW many years ago. After huffing and puffing for several minutes trying to push the flat tired BMW onto a trailer it suddenly dawned on me, the engine was still quite functional. Hit the starter and idled it up the ramp.

I had a rear tyre blow out on the 405 freeway in Los Angeles at around 4pm anyone who knows the 405 will agree it has some traffic:eek: anyhoo going about 50mph bang back tyre went as everyone who rides a bike knows if your rear tyre goes flat it is nearly impossible to steer the bike, I cut across three lanes of traffic and never hit or got hit made it to an off ramp and saw a motorcycle shop up the street the guy at the shop installed a new tyre and sent me on my way. :D

First of all, I'm glad that you managed to stop safely and are alive to tell the tale. It could have been very nasty, especially at that speed.

If my dealer told me that he wouldn't put a tyre on one axle that wasn't the same brand as the one on the other axle then I would be seriously looking for another dealer. Legally, you can have a bias ply on the front and a radial ply on the back as they are on different axles. I would love to know his reasons for that attitude.

$75 is about the normal price to change a tyre if you bring it in on the bike. It is a bit rich if you have already taken the wheel off. One of the local tyre places charges me only $20 to swap the rear tyre out when I take the rim to him.

I had to use the Progressive towing service to get my Enfield home when it blew out the rear tube. I found the service to be good, reasonably quick, and was not charged - even though it was a few miles over the free towing distance. Sadly though, I did not get to talk with Flo either. :(

triple a has saved me & my wife from side of road a couple of times free maps /100 miles towing/ gas /parts /tire change /unlock the car when you lock keys inside they almost do it all

I have AAA RV Plus. Had to use it awhile back. AAA has been good to me over the years, but the toe company thatnpickedup my Rocket was less than satisfactory. A real mickey mouse trailer:)

Glad youmade it through your ordeal in one piece.

I feel your pain. I've been cross country four times and two out of the four trips i got a flat tire. Once in Iowa and Montana. I had H.O.G Roadside Assistance that treated me very well both times, they came to the rescue and had me back on the road within hours. Owning the Rocket i switched to AMA . I still think H.O.G was a better deal
it wouldn't be hard to convince a tow truck driver the Rocket is a Harley, the trick is having him take it to a Triumph dealer...:D;)

AMA Roadside Assistance Program

****, I'm sorry that happened to you. I'm glad you're ok, especially having the Beast fall on you. I know how heavy that bike is (found out last night). What matters now is you and your Rocket are back online.
