First ride for me this year . . . in Virginia -- rode the other bike and finally got to wash off all the crap from riding it in the first rains after winter with all the road salt and what else out there.
Today, though, glorious weather and just happens to be the peak of the cherry blossoms in DC, and while I would not take the bike down there, I was in that general direction, and was caught in spots of truly stop, wait, go traffic (left hand got a work out).
The emotions were positive as I had my wife on pillion, and we met up with a co-worker taking his new lady friend out for her first ride -- he was on a Thunderbird -- curiously, same paint scheme as the Rocket Touring (red/black).
He is an Alexandria, and we picked up the GW Parkway headed west, and got on Chain Bridge to cross the river to the Maryland side, then continued west on Clara Barton Pkwy to MacArthur Blvd to the end, up Falls Rd to Potomac, MD and stopped at a Vie de France bakery there.
The free-ride-for-motorcycles on the High Occupancy Toll lanes came in handy today, setting the McCruise on 75mph and cruising past the slog of traffic in the regular lanes.
Returned home, and my wife patted me, saying, "You did well." This was a needed vote of confidence, since our last outing in October (reported elsewhere) I dropped the bike once with her on it, shaking confidence somewhat.
Rocket has . . . whoa . . . hold your hats boys . . . all of 2,164 miles on the clock, and I'm looking to get some good miles in with my daughter having just chosen college in Harrisonburg, VA, a nice jaunt out I-66 and a little ways down I-81. She thinks she is far enough away to not be bothered by her parents. Little does she know . . . ;-)
May your rides be as glorious this year.
