That fire started very quickly and then wouldn't go out. Quick to anger and slow to forgive is the wrong way round.
 
Lithium Ion batteries, which those probably are, are latent fire bombs.
Puncture one, like if you crash the bike, and this is what might happen:


But that video didn't show any crash.
Just excellent manufacturing techniques, I guess.

Newer technologies prevent it, but that's not widely available yet.
 
I can tell you here and now - If you puncture Automotive grade Lithium Iron Phosphate battery cells - They do NOT ignite.

I wanted to see what was inside one. 8aH cell.

The way to get them to smoke is overload them. ;)
