So, like I mentioned, I just bought this bike and have never owned a Rocket before. I was messing with the electrics. The previous owner had a cheapo camera front and rear. I took them off and discovered this behind the battery. I take it, it's for messing about and screwing up the ECU. I wouldn't have a clue how to use it, and I do not want to mess with it. It's got a red light glowing. I take it that means it's doing something. Can I unpluck it or just leave it in?

That's an interface for taking data. It's plugged into your OBD connector so just unplug it since you aren't using it. If you had the software it probably sends operating parameters to a phone/pad/laptop. If you want to tweak the ECU get TuneECU and a chip enabled cable and you're all set.

Oh, I forgot to ask. Is there an idiot's guide for the layman on here, please? You already lost me with the chipped cable. Is that the one it connects into and then to the ECU? For example. And is TuneECU the only software I can use with this? I see it mentioned frequently on this site. That's all. I'll have to research it proper before I go anywhere near it.

The "chipped cable" means an FTDI chip in the cable to connect to the bike's ECU. There are a ton of Youtube videos on using TuneECU on your Triumph's ECU. It's a great diagnostic tool as well as a means to remap the fuel injection if so inclined. The website you should check out is: TuneECU_Start

The download is free (unless you download it to your android phone), however to register your bike with TuneECU that will cost you for a license somehwere about $30 US. Once your bike is registered you can access all kinds of stuff. There are recommended cables on the website, you won't go wrong buying one of those. The newer model Triumphs use a bluetooth OBD but the older bikes like yours requires a cable. Check out the Youtube vids and you'll see how to do a lot of different jobs using the program, it's worth the effort.
