Been experimenting with some heatshrink tube on my forks, this is my first attempt with some standard tube, I think you can get PVC tube which will be a glossier finish but not found it yet at the right size, this is 65mm tube cost £2.99.
I thought about it Steve, but didn't get further than not being able to find the stuff in a big enough diameter. Just assumed it wasn't available that big. Was thinking of wrapping the forks in black leather like my tank cover. Have bought some of that but haven't got round to it.
Stupid question - did you slip it over the forks to fit it, or cut & wrap it?
Remove the fork legs from the bike, move the dust seals out of the way, cut the bottom tube section to just over length and shrink it on, trim the bottom end, measure the exact length up to the bottom yoke and trim it off, cut a piece of tube over length for the top bit and shrink it on, measure the distance between the yokes and trim the top tube to this, after you have shrunk the top tube it easily slides off the fork leg so as you refit the legs hold the top tube between the yokes, the bottom tube will not slip down cos its got a fat bit at the bottom.
I have polished the tube up a bit and its not a bad finish but I am on the lookout for a better surface.
