Dismantling the Rocket for painting - Work in Progress

Gas tank is done now! In fact, the entire bike is done now. This entire project was actually quite simple. I was very skeptical about doing this myself, however, it really was easy. Thanks to those of you who encouraged me to just jump in and do it. I did use the manual, and went slowly, but there was never a point that I worried. At least, not after I got started.

Anyway, here are the pics of the gas tank removal.

Did you ever mock it up all blacked out on everything but the main creamcycle areas?

No. Not yet. I had four law school final exams and a baby in the past week, so things have been crazy. That is why I'm hiding in the garage with my heater.

I think I'm gonna work on getting the paint done, then once she's all back together, I can do some photoshopping on my ACTUAL bike, to see what other changes would look like. It's too depressing photoshopping some random picture off the internet.

Geek, have you thought about filling the tank seam on the non bear claw side? It will give it a cleaner look.

That's a GREAT idea!

Yep, still need to remove all the trim pieces. Everything is off the bike, and I've got the gas tank all taken apart (and tweaked the sensor), so I just need to remove the chrome from the bags and the fenders and what not.

I also removed the air intake system last night and then ordered the 3x K&N filters and breather. I was just about ready to take out the secondaries when I got scolded for spending the entire day in the garage

Yep, it was a good productive day.

Umm ... I'm either blind or stupid because I just looked at the pics and I have NO IDEA what you two are talking about.

I am on my way to Lowe's to see if I can find a heater like yours. I lit off my single burner 6K watt propane heater and checked to see how warm the garage was about 20 minutes later. It wasn't warm at all. It is just colder than a well diggers ass out there. I need a little heat to mount my radiant electric heater.

Were you able to get the front fender off without scratching it? I want to remove mine to install the mud guard extender. Since I won't be painting it, I don't want any chance of a scratch. I could always remove the front tire.
